My main worry going into the draft without a GM in place was that Burke may have made some significant changes. I would imagine Brad will have a voice on what happens from here forward.
Exciting times!

If you are running a hockey team, would you continue the employment of an executive intimately involved with your scouting if he was going elsewhere?
I think he'll start immediately

Sure, they weren't all home runs, but there are a couple decent picks in there.

I'm glad we didn't recycle an Ex-GM off the scrap heap.
Going to be interesting to see how the rest of the front office ends up, and if their are any major changes to the scouting staff, etc.

I like it because he's not part of the old guard and probably has something to prove. It's a wait and see for me for now, but I like it.

Kevin Weekes @KevinWeekes 53s @NHLFlames Hiring on Treliving another example of paradigm shift from 'Antiquated' to 'Wide Angle' thinkers for @NHL teams. #Evolution.

Brad Treliving is Asst GM to Rob Blake for Canada's World Championships team. A chance to get to know his rebuild centrepiece, Sean Monahan.

I like it. He's got a great background in hockey and I think he's well groomed for this role. Fan 960 brought up a good point with the financial constraints he had in Phoenix when the league owned them, he still helped manage them into a competitive team.

In Calgary, he’ll have a lot more cap space to play with than he had in the past, plus his chance to put a stamp on an organization that is in the midst of a big rebuild. The Flames made three first-round picks last year and the top prize, center Sean Monahan, has already made a huge impact.

I'm seriously impressed with Treliving's CV. A man who (co-)founded his own minor pro hockey league while still in his twenties is impressive. A man whose minor pro league didn't fail, like 95% of all the pro leagues that have come and gone, but survived long enough to be merged with the Central Hockey League – that's even more impressive. A man who became president of the merged CHL, and led it through seven years of steady growth and success – that's beyond impressive.
It's worth noting, too, that the Central League has shrunk from 17 teams when Treliving left to 10 teams today. Apparently he was not an easy man to replace.

I like this.
Treliving was one of those up and comers named when this search all started, I don't know much about him but I like the new structure the Flames have going. Treliving won't be alone as he'll be able to draw on the vast experience and hockey contacts that Burke has while finally being "the guy" as GM. He'll also have, what I see, as another sharp young hockey mind to study under him in Craig Conroy to help and bounce ideas off of, take care of many different things.

I like Weisbrod more than a lot here, but no. This is exactly the type of hire the majority of us wanted; young, up and coming AGM from an organization that does things the right way.
Phoenix has been on the verge of moving for the better part of a decade, and they've been pretty competitive for the last five years. I want a guy who's come through that sort of adversity running this ship.
Can't wait to see what he does.
