Did anyone actually watch the cup being hoisted? Couldn't do it 10 years ago can't do it today. It pains me man.
Yep me too. The only cup celebration I have refused to watch. I turned my TV off right after the game. That save on Leopold will forever haunt me.
Hard to believe the run was 10 years ago. Was so proud to be a flames fan and wore my jersey often at school in Edmonton. Still hate myself for not making a trip down to Calgary to experience the atmosphere.
Yes, I would say the Donovan injury was the straw that broke the camels back for Calgary, which in hindsight was so unfortunate because he was playing so well.
I seem to recall Sutter saying something about Regehr getting injured in Game 6 OT as well. Pretty sure Sutter said he would have been better to lose that game in regulation and have a healthy Regehr in game 7 instead. Something like that anyways......
That is the moment that haunts me. Not the Gelinas non goal. This. Was at the dome and as the play happened I thought THIS IS IT!!! And then it wasn't.

IIRC he was seen in a walking cast after game 6. I remember being furious with Don Cherry during game 7 because he complained on Coaches Corner that Regehr had turned the wrong way on the the first Fedetenko goal. He had no business being in the game to begin with but we were out of healthy players.
Anyway... for me Game 6 broke my heart - Game 7 was just accepting our fate.
During that run Warrener was my emotional barometer. He never got very excited about the wins and never too low. Kept the focus on winning in the end - no getting ahead of yourself. It opened old wounds to read his game 7 comments. One of my all time favorite Flames.

That was inches...inches away from ending it, and we'd all be getting off at the re-named Marcus Nilson/Stampede Station 10 years later, to go to games.
Maybe not even inches, maybe if the puck was tilted at a different angle and slips through... maybe, maybe, maybe! It's still so gut-wrenching to see how close that was.
For sure the loss of Shean Donovan in Game 6 was the key. Even within that game, we missed his speed. That line would cycle and cycle and beat opponents to pucks all over the ice and Darryl would follow that up with the Conroy line who could take advantage of the disarray. Once that 2nd line threat was removed, the Flames had a hard time taking momentum in that game. It's so weird that a plugger like Donovan could be the difference, but that's how well that guy played in those playoffs.
Off the top of my head, now that many are retired or in the twilight of their careers, this is the list of guys that probably never played better hockey than in this run:

I mean, you put all that together, and you get the collective sum being far more than the individual parts. That's a rare chance, and that's why it hurt so much to miss the opportunity.
What a fun team that was to get behind. All the talk about not being able to watch even now, that's baloney. Sure the last two games still ache, but the rest of it is just great to watch and brings back a lot of fantastic memories. It was a special time in Calgary.

As Jiri said THIS, was the Cup moment, that puck dropping behind Khabibhulin in OT, for the Cup, in Canada...the second last reply from ice level seeing the fans in the background jump up then have their hands on their head, says it all.
Every single one of those boys from '04 will have a special place in my heart, even Ference who even now as an Oiler (who are no good BTW) thought of Iggy and the boys when he hoisted the cup in Boston...
Never been prouder of the hockey club and of my city, united under the C of RED and technically an entire country, no one else has done this before and won't for a long time.
All the more reason to continue pushing #Cup4Iggy, fate owes him one still. I hope to see Gelinas and Conroy hoist the cup with the Flames as coaching and management someday.

I was sitting in Melrose the night they clinched a playoff spot with the win against the Yotes.
I was 1 of 2 people in the whole place wearing a new jersey and the other guy any I were on opposite sides of the bar but were the only 2 people in the place to be excited and cheering during the game and about the outcome.
People were actually glaring at us and shaking heads like "shut up" wow the Flames actually won ......people had no idea, nor did they care......yet.
Funny from that moment through to the very end I kept telling people the Flames were going to win the cup.
Ill carry to my grave the Everlasting memories of the entire experience of the games I saw, the people I met, the hundreds I high fived, hugged .
I remember when it was over I was devastated.....then when we went to the Olympic Plaza ..... I was so proud proud proud of the turnout......and people were joking ....imagine we'd won the game??
We did.
Damn onions.

I was in the 9th grade. No one believes me but that was the first year I started following the Flames, simply cause their new jerseys caught my eye! I picked quite the year. I cried like a child when they lost in game 7.
I also went to game 6 against Detroit alone which was weird but I'm very happy I did!

It was an amazing run.
You graduated same year I did and started following th e Flames same year I did.
I started following that season because of a very exciting 4-4 tie with Vancouver earlier in the season. McLennan was in net and I think Shean Donovan scored because I had my eye on him the rest of the way through.

Wow thats crazy, I've neer seen any of those video's. I was at the games (luckily enough) and since 2004, well, I never brought myself to actually watching anything from the that playoffs. Crazy blast from the past!

That's actually from the 07 playoffs, but such an incredible picture. That is exactly the kind of look other teams hope for with t-shirt giveaways. But we did it ourselves.
I still can't watch highlights from the finals series.
Everytime I see a video I get sad and not because I am mad as a fan but because I loved that team so damn much and those players deserved to win and have their name on the cup.
