If this is true I really, really, REALLY hope that Kerr returns to the FAN. Steinberg is excellent on there, and the only thing that could make it better is if Kerr was on there talking sports for 4-5 hours PLUS hosting the Flames games.

Such a fantastic radio guy.

Yes. Mark Lee.
Then everyone will be happy.
We're such a whiny fan base .
Imo, play by play is important for radio, who really cares on TV.
Good luck Rob. You will be missed in Calgary

Rick Ball would be a sweet regional pbp guy. I like it when he calls flames games for HNIC . even with the whole "and the d-man activates " thing.

I'm like most people and can't celebrate anyone losing their jobs. I wish Rob and Charlie the best and hope they find a job that makes them happy and uses their talents to the fullest.

A few of the CBC guys will likely be latching on with Rogers. Looks like TSN is going to pay a few guys to do nothing for the next 12 years or until they file for receivership, but McLennan may make for a good color guy someday. Ball and Hrudey might be a duo that get some of the Western region games.

Too bad for Simmer and Kerr, but they were mediocre at best as a broadcast duo. I suspect they will be okay.

Rob Kerr has a talent for sports talk radio, I'm sure his career will buttonhook back to that in some form. As for Simmer, no one knows the neutral ice zone like that guy. Penalty box attendant?

Nah. I mean the people who take it way past criticism into the weird entitled ... Bitchiness? Not sure the right word. It's like they are proud of themselves. I don't know how someone even begins to feel that passionately negative about a service they get for free.

Millions. Then loubo. Now Kerr. And the next guy will get it too.

Not saying you, btw.

Anyway, Good luck to Kerr and simmer.

TSN does have regional deals so they need commentators for that. Ottawa, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto. Shouldn't be a problem finding work for those guys.

We can all feel sorry for any individual who loses their job. but let's face it, there are only 30 of these jobs around and these guys are nowhere near good enough. I was embarrassed for them on an almost nightly basis, and embarrassed that they were associated with the Flames. Let's hope the get some good replacements.

Cable TV isn't free. I do agree it goes way overboard, but I also believe this is the first pair where it's been warranted.

I had no problem with Kerr and I think it would suck to lose him from Flames related broadcasting in general. I hope he still covers the team in some way on TV or radio. A hockey show with Kerr and Loubo would be ace.

On one hand I'm glad Rogers was listening to fans and is looking to upgrade their Flames PBP broadcasts. On the other hand Kerr and Simmer are great guys and it's always sad to see good people lose their jobs. I have no doubt Kerr will bounce back and selfishly as a Flames fan I hope he goes back to 960 to help stop that ship from sinking.

It will be interesting to see who is chosen as replacement as the pool should be a little larger with CBC talent available. As others have already said it's easy to find guys that know hockey and work hard but they really need to find a PBP guy with a solid voice as the last two IMO simply didn't have PBP voices. Millions does who knows if they will go back to that well. I would be okay with that as long as he got a strong colour man.

I will forgive Sportsnet for all their previous sins if they make this happen. If not, Rick Ball or even bringing back Lombo would be excellent choices that are available.

Glad this change has been done to improve the PBP quality which has just be subpar. Kerr has great passion though, so I hope Sportsnet keeps him around in a capacity that he'll excel at. Simmer should land somewhere good for him as well.

Really hope Sportsnet gets a good duo for the upcoming season. And fix that bloody audio sync as well.

One would think that after cycling through four PBP guys in almost as many years a realization would be made that Rogers is not attracting good talent.

This is the same company that just forced a sports radio station to exist with two qualified on air talents.

Where are the Flames in this mess? Do they not want to ensure the on TV product is to their standards?

If the Fan cant afford Ryan Leslie then i don't have much hope of it being able to throw enough money at Kerr to return.

I wonder two things about this. If the negativity of having the audio out of sync was taken away would that have bought them an extra year or two? Also is it possible that Kerr was just in the wrong seat in the booth? If given Simmers job does Kerr come across as a better commentator with more time to explain his insights into the game, which are very good, and less shrieking and accentuating random words due to his excitement?

I think this thread in general and you in particular may be underestimating the role the Flames themselves play in picking and punting announcers.
