IMO....Ekblad is the BPA.
Best D available since Doughty.
Tremendous upside....and top D that work out always play more minutes than top Forwards.

A high scoring, inconsistent, soft player - sounds more like a top 6 or bust than a bottom 5?
Maybe ive read the reports on him wrong. But an ISS guy compared him to Joe Thornton
|
Doesn't see him translating his skill to the big showfor some reason , but big, strong enough to land 20-30 point seasons in a checking role.....simplified I guess.

In hindsight, almost everything came up Milhouse for the Flames this weekend. I honestly did not think Calgary would actually be able to finish sitting at drafting 4th (barring the draft lottery results).

I am leaning that way if we win the lotto. Plus this team will be able to grab another highly skilled forward next year.

I really like Ritchie as a prospect, and he does fill a huge hole for the Flames organizationally.
There is a chance that Burke drafts Ritchie - based on the following probability:
The Flames get bumped down to 5th in the lottery, AND Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett and Dal Colle are off the board.
I think there is a better chance that Burke trades up into the draft.
Once again, I really like Ritchie as a prospect, and think he would be a very valuable addition to the Flames moving forward, but those guys ahead of him are just that much better and I don't think Button or Burke would pass this opportunity up.

I bet Burke swaps picks with Florida and picks up Ekblad. We need a big right handed #1 defenseman so much more than we need another good center or left wing.

I agree. Hope Burke does too and the GMs ahead of us don't. Fingers crossed for a lottery win.
Better than Jones though?

I agree that Ritchie would be perfect. People are right when they say you take the best player available. The BPA would be Bennet/Ekblad - and Reinhart after that. IF these 3 are taken. Theres no way you can be upset with Ritchie over Draisatl, Dal colle or Virtanen etc. Things get really close after those top 3.
I would LOVE Ritchie.
Good speed for a big guy, 6'3 230, amazing shot, great stats, team player, gritty, top compete level, good fighter and he models his game after Lucic and Jamie Benn. Whats not to like? Not to mention moon tells me he played RW before he got to Peterborough - so that helps us.

I would have to agree. If we can't nab Ebklad, Reinahrt, or Bennett, I think its between Ritchie/Draisaitl/Dal Colle/Perlini.

A dream off season for me is us drafting Ritchie and somehow getting Hayes + also drafting a bunch of D prospects.
I would love a right side that was
Colbourne
Poirier
Hayes
Ritchie.
Skill, size, grit, and tons of potential. That would help offset our small, skilled, offensive LW prospects like Baertschi, Gaudreau, Klimchuk and potentially Granlund.

Burke will have some 'splaining to do if he uses the 4th overall pick to take Virtanen. Seems like another one of those players with a great tool set, but no toolbox

Why Ritchie?? He is ranked 15th on Craig's list. First I've heard his name...

Now, this is just me talking, but I'd give up our 1st + both our 2nds.
The opportunity to get Reinhart or Ekblad would be a game changer for this team. We have good prospect depth. We need the elite talent.

I wouldn't give up both 2nds, but I might throw one of them in, along with Pittsburgh's 3rd.

If we win the lottery, the Oilers would be picking 4th instead of 3rd. We 'd have to be getting something pretty good to move back to our original position. Something like our 2014 first & 2nd for their first in 2014 & 2015.
