This is the type of 'goon' this team needs. He is such a motivation for the young guys, almost like that ikder brother influence.

I love the fact that Big Ern almost seems like the rally point for this team, he's become that team leader without the letter.

On top of that, every once in a while he'll make a play or pull a move that really blows away the idea that he's simply a knuckle puncher.

The guy is just invaluable, he's created what I think is one of the better fourth lines in the league. Everytime they're out there they make something positive happen.

I just loved his quiet, if you keep things up I'm going to hurt you moments last night in Tampa.

I still can't believe that there were people who didn't want him on the team. The guy is just a good person and having someone like him around the kids is important for more reasons than to just keep them safe on the ice.

100% agree that he's a leader on this team.

Thankfully he's got another year on his deal. He's a key part of this rebuild.

Last night was interesting - he was giving BJ Crombeen a talking-to at a faceoff. Letting him know that if he's going to be running around like an idiot, he'd have to pay the price.

And after the shift, Big Ern sat on the bench and the guy next to him (Colborne?) had a big smile and kind of slugged him in the arm. Like he really respected what Big Ern did on the ice.

I think everyone plays an inch taller when Big Ern is around.

Love the "Big Ern"-brings a lot to the team.

The guy is invaluable for what he is. He's one of the toughest guys in the league, and he can actually skate and handle the puck. Tough guys are a dime a dozen, but having one on your team that doesn't make it look like you're shorthanded when he's on the ice (Steve Macintyre) is pretty tough to find.

He's not just taking a shift looking for a fight, he's taking a regular shift and cycling in the other end.

Brian McGrattan. 7 Points. -3.

7 points. Hes ranked 549th in NHL scoring. That means theres 315 players in the NHL with fewer points than him and they probably punch considerably fewer faces.

I think thats awesome.

He is as popular as I can remember a tough guy being in Calgary. He is at the Tim Hunter/Nick Fotiu stage.

he's past the popularity of McCarthy, Oliwa, Goddard, Berube v1.

Interesting to see how this carries on in the future.

Its funny how he is reaching his peak much later than most players. Nobody even wants to fight him. He has some serious skill at fighting
