What would put the cherry on this very delicious sundae would be if Vanek doesn't end up signing with Minny in the off-season, and instead re-ups with Montreal, and for less money than Snow offered.
I actually thought Snow was managing to gain traction for the Isles in respectability, considering that a few of his moves were forced by Wang and he had to get very creative to try and build the team. Up until this point, I actually thought he was fairly competent.
I don't think he survives this.

Please, at this point its like watching a puppy getting repeatedly kicked in the face.
Why would he want to survive this? Hes become a complete joke in the eyes of his peers. Make it stop. Please, just make it stop.

Well, I'm glad Buffalo traded him for a solid return early season instead of being the one embarrassed at the deadline.

So yeah, if I'm Minnesota wanting to add, I definitely put Moulson higher than Vanek. I don't want a "star" with entitlement issues into my team (getting wasted at the Olympics the evening before your playoff game). I want a guy who's more committed. That's the thing, it seems that purely offensive players are just being sold off pennies on the dollar lately. This is a complete players game now.
With the systems and coaching now the line between winning and losing is so small that a goal scorer like Vanek sure, might get you 2 more wins over the course of an 82 game season. A systems player gets you the same or better at half the price and less alot of headaches for the coaches. Don't get me wrong, there's still lots of room for purely offensive guys, but that's only if you bring it consistently. Vanek, Gaborik, and the other elite scorers are on the market for a reason, they don't bring it.

Vanek is at least twice as productive as Moulson. All top players run hot and cold so it's not a surprise. As to the dollar to production ratio, you can't blame him for getting paid because Kevin Lowe is an idiot. As Burke said that summer, Lowe is screwing the whole league with his RFA offer sheets, basically taking away a teams ability to pay a bridge contract.
They are the same age, played at college and yet Vanek has played almost twice the games (with points that coincide). Is a proven 40 goal scorer with a proven playoff ability. I would definitely take Vanek, but Snow did screw this up in the end.

Bob McKenzie on TSN radio was saying that the Leafs had an offer on the table for Vanek that was supposedly better than Montreal's offer but the Islanders were unwilling to retain salary that the Leafs asked for.

Not even we in Austria know the names of the players that were part of that, but yeah, let's jump to conclusions! Also they it wasn't a day before a game, they had the day off. Not trying to defend them in any way, but let's stick to the facts.

Pretty sure Vanek apologized for being one of the players out too late.
Here it is:
Quote:
The Austrian hockey federation released a statement acknowledging that it made a mistake naming Vanek captain, and saying it would soon release a full list of players who stayed out late.

That's news to me. There was nothing about "making Vanek captain was a mistake" in the Austrian media. All I know is that Vanek apologized in the name of the team, which he has to since he's the captain. The federation said they'd release the names, but of course they haven't.
