Agreed... I'm a bit bummed we didn't get that mid-round pick for Cammalleri, but glad we got it for Stempniak instead.

How can you not consider the 2nd from Berra a steal?

How can a second for Berra not be an outright steal? Yes, he could turn into something. But he could turn into nothing too, and he's FA on July 1st. A second for him is a steal.

Does this mean that Backlund can get his number 22 finally.

30 minutes ago I though Berra would be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog crap out of Hong Kong after this season not returning a 2nd round pick.

A 3rd rounder is a decent return when you look at the other trades.

The two trades that we made today were both good. Although minor ones

Agree with this viewpoint. Berra for a 2nd though i think is a steal for Burke.

Stempniak was never the same after he rushes back from injury to play while wearing a walking cast, then getting his teeth knocked out by Ference and not one teammate lifted a finger to do anything about it.
The guy had put it all on the line for the team, they weren't reciprocating, so he stopped playing while injured and refrained from heroic efforts.
Seems like a good guy and I hope he plays well in the playoffs. I'd hope he could sign a 3 or 4 year deal (somewhere) to get some stability for his family.

2 reasons:
a) 9 goalies changed hands, it was a pretty hot market for them (Burke did well to take advantage of that);
b) Colorado's 2nd round pick will be a high one, as opposed to a low one, close to a high 3rd round pick.
Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing the deal. But I don't think it was a steal.
Berra has shown some potential if some NHL coaching could improve his positional play.

^ I take it Feaster said something like that on TSN?
I'm sitting at my desk and gave up on streaming it after the 10th crash.

How do you figure that? Colorado are near the top of the standings...hence it would be a low/late 2nd rounder, no?

and his mobility... his ability to properly read a play at an NHL level... his puckhandling skills... coralling rebounds in his chest... kicking out rebounds to non-danger areas... getting back to his feet at an NHL level... reading the play behind his own net... staying up a split-second longer... flexibility... improving his puck tracking ability.
So yeah, if he improves all those to even a mediocre level... sure he has potential.
Getting a second rounder for a 26 year old, 0.897 sv % goalie with 29 NHL games under his belt is pretty much the reason why Burke continues to get gigs. Disappointed at the Cammalleri non-trade but this Berra deal is like opposite-land version of acquiring Miikka for a 2nd.

We're saying the same thing. I mean "high" as in high-numbered pick. Like 50-something overall.
