I hope its true otherwise some rumor mongering a-holes from Vancouver radio will be getting Backlund's hopes up for nothing.

As much as I like Backlund and as much as I hate the Canucks, at this point in their career, H Sedin > M Backlund.

But if he's extra motivated and is put into a situation where he can succeed, who knows what can happen.

Ya the Sedins decline is probably the main reason for the Canucks being a playoff bubble team this year. Out with the old and in with the new.

Berglund and Backlund have some great chemistry together. That mixed with their names being so close together and they're practically twins.

I disagree, both of the sisters have been playing terrible since the start of 2014 it seems like. Just not good lately, at all.

They're in their 30s and just got paid their last contracts. They're phoning it in now.

Mikael Backlund of the Calgary Flames will reportedly replace Sedin, though Backlund tweeted on Thursday afternoon that he has not yet been contacted by the team.
So TSN is reporting it now too.

I really hope Backs gets the call, but I'm not sure how he would make the team over Marcus Johansson, who is already on the reserve list.

The original story came from the Swedish media. I'd consider it legit.

Would be quite the troll job by Team 1040 to get Calgary fans pumped up for nothing...

Link the orignal story please. Everyone that I talked to in Sweden has told me no one is reporting Backlund has been named to the team.

From what I can tell, the guys from 1040 were the ones originally reporting it.

It's great how all of these players are getting injured and our Flame players are getting mentioned.
Czech Republic - Hudler (should have been in there in the first place)
Canada - Giordano (possibly not though, though he should be the way he's been playing)
Sweden - Backlund - Don't see who else deserves this more than him, he's also picked up his game as of late.

The only consistent I have found in Swedish Reports is that a replacement will not be named until Friday:

I highly doubt Backlund is getting his hopes up due to any media reports. If this is a realistic possibility, Backlund will know about it directly through people on the Sweedish national team. Backlund also likely knew where he sat with them in regards to where he is on the list post there announcement long ago.

If no one from the National team has been in conversation with Backs, I doubt we need to worry about him getting some hopes up because of a media rumour, he'll know better.

This is actually bad news for team canada... Backlund has been playing better than either of the sisters over the last month so it's definitely an upgrade for an already good Swedish team. Happy for backlund though... Hope they make an official announcement before tonight's game so it doesn't distract him.

That coming from sports people here. They're saying the story originated in Sweden.

I'm translating some Swede tweets right now though, sounds like many are hoping it's Backlund just the same as us, but haven't themselves received confirmation, either.
