We haven't even drafted most of our future core yet. The guys we draft in 2015 won't be 24-25 until 2021, or seven years from now.

anything more then 4 years means that you have a failure in scouting and your GM is doing a terrible job of acquiring assets.
In the time between the fourth and fifth year you should be pushing hard for free agents to fill in the gaps and support a fairly young core.

The rebuild will likely involve 2-3 more seasons of drafting top 5-6. But not all of those players are going to make an immediate impact. We don't have a top pairing d-man on the horizon, and they typically take 3-5 seasons to develop. So even if we draft Ekblad this year, don't expect him to be a front-line player until 2017 or later. And if we don't draft a blue chip d-man until 2015 or 2016, that pushes the development out even further.
People here are counting their chickens before they're hatched. Half of even our strong prospects will probably bust. That's just the odds. We need a lot more 1st and 2nd round selections to put together an LA, Chicago, or St. Louis roster.
The reason we're going to likely have a long rebuild is Sutter left the franchise with a smouldering wasteland of under 26 talent. The rebuild was delayed far too long, and now we're just going to have the accept the consequences.
