Weird that this almost felt like a win just because of the goal.
What the hell kind of road trip is Carolina and Nashville, back to back? Winnipeg next Thursday...we might actually see multiple goals at home.

The last few seasons seems to be the same thing for Stajan. He plays well early in the season and we all think he's coming around then by December his game falls off. Really frustrating.

Given how TSN screwed them over by keeping all the quality talent, I suspect we'll be stuck with those fools for a while yet.
Anyway, the Flames medical staff needs to be asked some serious questions right now. As much as Gio is a warrior, he was woozy trying to get up after that Bortuzzo cheap shot. There is no way he should have been allowed back out on the ice.
Incidentally, that wasn't even Bortuzzo's first dirty play of the night. He got away with a spear after the whistle in the first.
Good effort tonight though. And if we played this exact game a month ago, or a month from now when we aren't in this horrible scoring slump, Fleury doesn't get that lucky save off his head, Backlund has a pair and we get at least a point out of it. C'est la vie.

Game take
Was at dome tonight. Pretty sweet seats in first row of section 210. Pretty entertaining game overall - good value for the money.
I was pretty concerned with that hit on Gio - looked hella bad in real-time, but it was across the rink from me, so that could've affected my perception. What surprised me though was how quick he was back in the game. Doesn't the NHL have a concussion protocol? Didn't seem like anyone even took him down the hall to talk to him. And honestly he looked a little lost for his 2 shifts after that as I was following him specifically. Wouldn't be surprised if Bortuzzo gets a game or two for that hit either.
Berra made some wicked saves, especially the two on Sid.
Oh and one last thing. The 3rds ARE really that bad. Saw a lot more people wearing them than I thought I would. Ugh.
Got a new Flames cap! This one:

Didn't see your post before I made the same comment.... I totally agree.

Tonight was only Monahan's second minor penalty of the year. I thought that was funny.

I had no idea that Alberta's economy attracted so many from West Penn, until being in the dome tonight.

Also, on that second goal, was that a line with BOTH Westgarth AND McGratton out there?
Silly.
BUT, show some god damn physicality and put one of those two on the ice after Gio almost got beheaded. Man that pisses me off, that we don't have one of our guys returning the liberties that they just did on our captain.
Yes, it was a power play.
Park McGratton in front of Fleury with his elbows high.

BUT that was a trade by messiah, all of his trades are to be praised, you shall not speak ill of the messiahs choice of players.
Yes he sucks and is not making the flames any harder to lay against, which was apparently the reason for trading for him.

A much better score than I was expecting. Got to give the guys some credit for that. As frustrating as our impotence has been for the fans, it must be hell for the players.

I hadn't ever seen Malkin in person before and maybe it was just me - but he is clearly the laziest player on the ice. Made some incredible plays, don't get me wrong, but the guy just drifts all over the ice and especially on the backcheck.

Last night he was particularly bad.
There were times on the PP where it looked like he decided he wasn't going to move at all and just see what would happen.

On a long road trip away from home against a bottom team being as good as he is and the money he's already making, can't see the motivation. His team still won.

Perhaps this is a small indication of just how unbalanced the competition is between East and West Conferences. Pittsburg is one of the best teams in the East, and yet they managed an OT win against the better-than-average Vancouver, then blew a lead to finish the game with a single point to the second worst team in the League, and eked out a single-goal victory against another bottom 3/4 team the following night. It seems to me that they should be winning all of those games, and is analogously like Anaheim losing to Detroit, then blowing a lead in Buffalo to lose in OT, and only eeking out a one-goal victory the following night in Nassau County.

Bortuzzo's match penalty is automatically reviewed, right?
The angle I saw at the Dome looked awful. Possibly left his feet with his elbow ending in full extension upwards.

one of us, one of us, one of us...
Shocking that their lack of hands and skating get's magnified against the most skilled team in the league.
I like having them for games not against top tier teams
