As far as their recent stuff goes, it's not too bad. I don't think it's as good as Lonely Boy, but it's better than most of the other stuff off El Camino.
Not really sure what I would compare it to. The end sounds like Tame Impala, and I think it's a little ridiculous how many bands are trying to sound like them now.
After a few listens, I'm not over the moon about the new Black Lips. Certainly one I was most excited for but fell a little flat for me. Certainly not up to snuff compared to recent efforts.
The new Liars however, is absolutely f'n perfect. If anyone is into some darker electronic stuff, the new Liars is a huge recommendation from me. Second only to the latest St.Vincent in terms of top records thus far.
Also, check this site for a good selection of upcoming albums, always a go-to for me:
If you're down for really straightforward college/indie rock, check out the new Tokyo Police Club. They're some of the best at the college rock angle and their new album fits right in.
Personally, I was super disappointed with the new Belle Brigade. Really just not at all what I was expecting. Felt a little bit forced to me. If you liked their first album prepare yourself for something totally different, maybe you'll enjoy it more than I did.
Every song sounds like a past, present, and future hit single, with ringing hooks, grooves that won't leave your hips alone, and the kind of cutting emotional depth that will leave blood pooling around your feet as it slashes you again and again. Pick any song, like the achingly pretty "Seasons (Waiting on You)" or the understated "Light House" or the after-hours Roxy Music-inspired "Like the Moon," and it'll be the kind of song that will stop people in their tracks in a crowded bar, the kind that you play over and over when you run across it streaming on a website, the kind that you tell all your friends about. A whole album of songs like that feels like a dream come true. It's real, though, and the vocals, the songs, the music, and the production work together to make Singles a one-of-a-kind experience that's nearly perfect.

With two guitarists in play, the album has an all-around warmer sound, as there is hardly a moment that isn't expertly filled in by these two expert axe-men. While Kubler is far from a slouch on his own, the differences in playing style between him and Selvidge lend the songs here a lot more depth. This means the band can open things rather than always going for the throat with a searing riff, making Teeth Dreams an album that rocks while still feeling laid-back. This new direction is one that suits the band well, and although it may seem like they've put their bar rock days in their rear view mirror, it's seems pretty clear that the band is heading toward a big, arena rock future.
Given that Mess originated from Liars messing around in the studio, it's a more spontaneous, accessible set of songs than they've delivered in some time. Even if it's not quite as striking an achievement as WIXIW, it's a lot of fun and shows, once again, that Liars are unquestionably themselves no matter how much they push their boundaries.
Holy smokes, the new album by The War on Drugs is incredible.
This tune absolutely wails:
Future Islands new album sounds like a mash of Elton John, Queensryche and The National. Pretty good.
New Cloud Cult live, unplugged album out mid April but if you are on their email list or Facebook you can get it now. They are going to go through Vancouver on their upcoming tour and say they want to come to Calgary for the first time but nothing listed.
For the next 30 days, you can download The Austin 100 from this page — either song by song, or with one click, in its 839 MB entirety — as well as stream it as a continuous mix, both here and through NPR Music's various mobile apps.

Looking forward to this. Love everything David Eugene Edwards does.
Also, the new Tori Amos record is supposed to be a real throwback to her earlier work. More piano, less electronica. Excited to hear that.
