Are those guys going to stick around there for WJHC? Cuthbert and Miller just going to call regional games or CFL games? CBC and Rogers have the next two Olympics as well, IIRC?

Does CBC get their theme back, for pennies on the dollar from TSN?

This is huge news.
Well hopefully some of them go to Sportsnet. At this point they don't have the talent for a national broadcast. Marek, Shannon, and Kypreos? Yikes.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Official announcement expected Tuesday by NHL: CBC and Rogers have exclusive English-language NHL rights deal. Believed to be 12 year deal.

I thought that sports nets regional type coverage prevented them from doing national games.

It will be interesting to see the details of this. I wonder how much tsn missed the target by?

I also assume that as a stand alone cost centre that Hnic is a source of profit for cbc.

First Jay and Dan, now their flagship program...TSN is a sinking ship.

I wonder if TSN will sell CBC the rights to the HNIC theme song since they'll have no use for it for the next 12 years at least.

I don't recall bitching about underfunding..............but ok.

Also, I do care how the government handles my money. And investing my money in hockey broadcast rights in Canada is actually a pretty sound investment, as it will turn a decent profit for them, which they can then in turn invest elswhere.

What I'd like them to stop doing is wasting money on the 98% of their other shows that nobody watches and actually CAUSES the CBC to bleed money and waste my tax payer dollars all in the name of "Canadian Content". As far as I'm concerned, the CBC can go to dead air if they aren't covering hockey or it isn't one of their few other money making shows, but any investment they choose to make in Saturday Night Hockey is a good one because it actually grows the money the portion of the tax payers dollars used on the production.

Hopefully this means that not only does the on-air talent move over to Sportsnet, but also the behind the scenes video/audio/tech guys. I'm sure TSN was the place to be on the production side as well the last few years...now that the market has shifted, maybe Sportsnet will get a crack at a higher level of talent as well.

Let's just hope Rogers raises their production budgets. If they want to become national, they need to stop the Mickey-mouse antics with Sportsnet. And no, that does not mean putting more money into their magazine.

Yeah ... all TSN has is the CFL and probably more NBA now. Rogers owns the Jays so they're not going to give that up. TSN is boned man.

Welcome to The Score territory.

Have to think there will be a giant talent shake up at TSN. Can't imagine they want to pay both cuthbert and Miller. I would guess Miller would be out since Cuthbert is the main CFL guy... And could do the world jrs, but wow.

They need to make 14 more remixes first.

Well CFL should have awesome broadcasts now that TSN will have all this extra talent and resources. Really hoping Gord Miller stays with TSN for CFL, ideally Cuthbert too.

Glad that CBC still has hockey, they're still the best production and it isn't even close.

This is great karma for TSN using outdated graphics for majoriy of the their programs, including Sportscentre. As well as using their "TSN WEDNESDAY NIGHT HOCKEY" graphic every second during the intermission segment.

This is a huge blow to TSNs ego. Now what are they going to rely on aside from CFL?

Seriously, Rogers pulled a steal of the century here. Now they got Blue Jays and NHL. Happy days for them ahead. (If Blue Jays ever start being good again)

Fingers crossed that the money spent by Snet on better production will make the regional production a lot better as well. It may well do that.

Also, with the influx of talent potentially coming to Snet, and the push that the network is likely making to be "all hockey all the time" given that they're spending billions to get on air and online rights to fill their networks, hopefully the trickle down effect of the broadcasts means thing becomes uniform.

Also new content created to be the new "hockey network" and pushes a guy like Kerr to a full time "Flames this Week" type show (with no Larry Day), opening up the commentary spot to something a little more experienced.
