We had 8 contract spots available before the Agostino signing, so we have lots available right now.

The Poirier, Klimchuk and Sieloff contracts all slide.

Edit - The Kanzig contract also slides.

Jesus, I really like the look of him. Looks like a RH Robyn Regehr.

Swinging a deal for the rights to Johns and Hayes would be a very sly move by Burke.

I've seen Hayes listed as a RW, but he's definitely a LH shot. Can't argue with size, though, and it would keep that great BC line together.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 26m The consensus top college UFA this year is UMass-Lowell D Christian Folin. UMass-Lowell plays Notre Dame Thursday in HE semi-final.

Christian Folin Second-year D, UMass-Lowell
Age: 23. Height: 6-3. Weight: 210.
Hometown: Gothenburg, Sweden
The skinny: His father, Martin, played professional soccer in Sweden ... 20 to 25 teams will be interested in the younger Folin ... Plays with an edge and has good size.

And he even shoots R. Sounds perfect for us. C'mon Burke get this guy. Seriously, Burke ought to just print-out our depth chart at D... I don't know how someone couldn't look at it and decide that they have a faster route and more opportunity here then elsewhere.

The Canucks were reportedly very close to signing folin last year before he decided to go back to school

Minnesota Wild are the clear-cut favorite to sign Greg Carey. Multiple sources saying that. Matt seems to be between MIN, EDM, CHI and PHI.

And we had to pay a 4th rounder for Knight.

Odd that they are so keen on Minnesota. What's so appealing about the Wild for an Ontario boy? Chicago I can understand but they are stacked.

And Edmonton??? Career suicide.

Dunno, I mean it's not a bad location... strong hockey market, decent opportunities for young forwards there, collegiate tradition. Could just be that the Carey brothers are a package deal and Minnesota is one of the few that wants both of them (as opposed to just Greg)?

Matt is really good as well, he easily would have been on my list, but i assumed he was staying in school when I wrote it.

I think teams are legit interested in him in his own right.

I wasn't really expecting the Flames to be heavily into the forward free agents, as they are relatively deep and it would be pretty difficult for a college free agent to beat out Reinhart, Hanowski, Agostino, Baertschi, Knight, Granlund, Ferland etc.

A college free agent defenseman would find the Flames depth at D a lot more attractive.

If we could get a scorer that could be top six or a big tough fourth line type to replace McGrattan in a couple years I could see us interested in a F. Hope we do scoop up a D and Kenney Morrison seemed to rank pretty high last year but trends towards the offensive side and I think Burke will want a more two way dman with size.

Well not from college UFA's. But both Mark Giordano and Ryan Wilson (now with the Avs) were UFA signings out of Major Junior. Not too shabby.

Phoenix makes a lot of sense. Their winger depth is pretty thin
