They should have moved a forward to make room for Bryzgalov. They have weakened an already weak blue line to sign a mentally soft goaltender. Kind of a puzzling one step forward one step back move. Is MacTavish having his Darryl Sutter moment this weekend?
edmonton could actually use a character on their team right now. The young studs cant handle the media scutiny, their GM is blinded by rhetoric from the President, and their coach doesnt even pretend to hide his feelings anymore.
A nut like Bryzgalov could really take the pressure off of the other players for a few weeks. This might work out better than we are thinking for the oilers.
Or it might turn out as we hope.

Reports say $2.5-$3M. RT @KTORO91: @BroadStBull how much did @EdmontonOilers sign @bryzgoalie30 for ?

Look forward to this...he has nothing to lose, money isn't the issue, and no filter of course,so when he realizes the depths that that organization is in, after the season (or before) I am sure he'll leave in a blaze of quotable glory.
Have the Oilers said that is why they dealt him or is that just speculation from media types?
If, as Feaster said, this is something they have been talking about for 3 weeks it seems like the move would have been more than just moving him to sign Bryzgalov.
I guess worrying about Dubnyk long term isn't really a concern since he sucks anyways but if Bryzgalov doesn't work out how great is Dubnyk going to feel when you turn back to him after bringing in Bryz to replace him?
Like how Luongo felt after Schneider was traded, basically.
CapGeek does not include Bonuses in there available cap space calc. The Bonus cushion is limited to 7.5% of the cap so about 4.5 million thus year. Edmonton has over 9 million in potential bonuses so 4.5 mil stays on the cap.
So after all the transactions cap geek shows they have 6.1 mil available minus 4.5 for bonuses only leaves about 1.75 once you pro rate it for the year. So Edmonon had essentially zero cap space prior to the smid deal

He's hilarious, should be some great sound bytes when he starts playing.
But a goalie who can be absolute garbage at times in front of a team with brutal team defense? This might not turn out well for Oiler fans.
I'm not sure how much worse it can get
We all are making fun of them but it is basically a no lose situation. No assets given up and they're terrible without him so what do they have to worry about?
