Starting a discussion over our goaltending situation is over-reacting? I thought it was a good topic I am in no way angry about the teams record or performance but not pleased with the goaltending. We traded our top D on his prime with a key piece coming back being Berra. We know we will see him this year I am wondering when the rest of CP thinks the flames bring him up

Berra will probably be up at some point but no reason to bring him up yet. He has not played well in the last two weeks. I don't think the Flames move MacDonald until or unless Ramo establishes himself as reliable and that hasn't happened yet. I don't think the Flames give up on Ramo until he is clearly deficient and/or Berra is clearly better and we're far from being able to assess that this early in the season.
In fact, there remains a chance that Ortio comes up before Berra. At least at this point, Berra has slipped and Ortio has shown enough that he should finally get a fair chance to show what he's got in Abbotsford.

Yeah, it's not all sunshine and candy.
I also missed Cam Ward off the list. He turned 22 a few months before winning the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe.

Ramo has done ok so far, but last night he just looked way off...his positioning in net was poor, bad rebounds, fought the puck all night, he's demonstrated these issues before to a certain extent but last night he was way off even for Ramo standards. Not sure if Joey MAc would of been any better.
Ive noticed that both goalies tend to over-commit and get themselves out of position. IMO Malarchuk needs to address this and get our goalies to be more fundamentally/positionally sound. It seems like they flop around too much.

I think that everyone needs to relax and let the goalies do their thing. Ramo has looked way better that Macdonald(outside of a couple of amazing saves)and i think he will be our main goalie going forward. I agree that he did have an off night last night but that is allowed to happen. When your team doesnt have a defensive dman it is not a good thing.

Mika wasn't much better his last 3 seasons. I remember letting in quite a few bad goals.

Even in his prime, he would have the occasional bad game. His strength was that he always followed it up with a stellar performance. Mentally, Kiprusoff was a rock in that regard, but there were times that we just had to close our eyes and forget. Unfortunately, it happened more often in the past few seasons.

I think the over commitment comes because both Mac and Ramo are smaller goalies so the need to come out more to cover the angle. Berra being bigger could play more conservative. Ortio too, I think he clocks in at 6'2.

Time to waive Jackman and go with 3 goalies. Play the hot hand. You have a good game, you play. You let in softies like they have the past couple of games, you sit on the bench or press box or you go to Abby.
1st call up is Orito. He plays and if he plays good, you keep playing him until he cools down. Keep rotating the guys between Abby and CGY until we find the right formula. If nothing firms by year's end, hope that Gillies turns pro and develop him into our starter starting in Abby next year and find a stop gap in the meantime.
We have nothing to lose this year, nothing is expected of us. We may have our goaltender of the future amongst us right now, but won't know unless we play them.
