Kanzig? Kulak? Culkin? Roy?

I think I'd rather see Ramage get a call-up than Billins. Cundari adds a lot, but he's a waiver-claim risk.
Cundari cleared waivers when he was assigned to Abby, I doubt he's done so much that he warrants a claim from another team.

Instances like this really separate the pretenders from the contenders. Playoff organizations have the depth where they can tread water when a big piece of their D goes down. San Jose is a good example of that with Boyle out they've inserted Demers with a small outcome in performance. We'll see how the Flames respond.

Plus I don't think there are many teams that would want to keep Cundari in the NHL for the whole season. If he is claimed off waivers he cannot be sent to the AHL.

If Cundari were claimed he would have to play on that team's roster or end up back on waivers. Ain't too many teams that hard up for depth.

So unless Edmonton is coveting another undersized bottom pairing PMD...

Cundari is short, but at 5 ft 9 195, he's sturdy. He had no issues with physical play at the end of last season, and I hope he gets a callup. He plays the rambunctious style our new Prez covets.

I like Cundari's game, what little I saw of it last season. The guy is a soldier, even if he is pretty small. If he isn't likely to get claimed then I hope we see him called up.

Well, at least George Johnson will be happy so that's something.

As with all "rebuilds", whomever is next on the depth chart should get the call. let's see what we have in an NHL game.

6 to 8 weeks is plenty of time to experience NHL hockey for our farmhands.

It is inevitable that we will have other injuries as well, so we must give the farm team players time in the NHL to get them ready for when they make the big jump.

How will we know what we have if they never get a chance?

Too bad from Gio, he was playing well enough to get some late Team Canada consideration, I'm assuming that's going to be gone now.

Well we wanted a high draft pick, for that which we are about to receive, we should be truly grateful.

I love the way Gio's been playing, but he wasn't ever going to be one of the 8 best D Canada has to offer.

We can see what Breen brings over a few week stretch here. Let's see what he can do.

Damn, I got a notification on my phone saying Flames Captain Mark Giordano expected... then it cut off. Clicked on it thinking it was going to say expected to play Wednesday night against the Leafs. I was left utterly disappointed. Lets hope Russel and Wideman can build on their plus 5 performance last game, and hopefully Breen can settle in more.

Well at least Jordano will be well rested for the playoffs!

I wonder if Wideman can play 35 minutes a game?

He's day-to-day with some strained abdominals.

It looks like Cundari is healthy again after his recent injury. I think he'll get the call (if he hasn't already).

I would like to see Cundari get an extended look to see what he can do. I want to see more from Breen as well when he gets healthy.

Wideman won't be able to play close to 30 minutes a game for the rest of the season without his play dropping off. Time to give some more minutes to the 3rd pairing.

Hate to say it, but well need Butler In top 4 form. When he was at least average in the role. He was alright saturday. But this doesn't have to spell our doom. We just need someone else to step up and give us some of those Gio qualities. Perhaps little Gio (Cundari)? Seeing how they handled the Caps gives me hope for our situation, though. Sadly our goals against isn't gonna get much help unless one of these tenders starts showing they can steal games. We'll have to bring a strong offensive, puck possession game until December.

It's sucks that Giordano will be out for 6-8 weeks but if we take out the positive about this injury is the season is way too early. I am not saying who cares about the injury, it's just that if we have any injury I would rather see them while it's early and not in the middle or late in the season.
I guess this is an opportunity for the Flames to develop their young Ds. I am hoping to see John Ramage, Mark Cundari, Tyler Wotherspoon(is he in the AHL or did he return to WHL?) and others.

I might be confused, but even with Giordano & Breen injured the Flames still have 6 healthy defenseman (Brodie, Wideman, Russell, O'Brien, Smith & Butler)?

Not sure why an emergency recall is required?

According to Scott Oak during the Washington broadcast, Gio was injured blocking a shot vs LA.

All I can recall is the huge hit he took leading to the Cammalleri goal though.
