Flu immunization to start Oct. 21/13

Here's something awesome: I called Health Link again, and they say that the clinics won't be running short, despite what the media is reporting. But what about the press conference and Fred Horne saying exactly that?

It's not these are the last of the flu shots ever and they will be gone by the end of the week. The supply could easily be replenished in a month. Just admit you don't want to go and you're using any excuse not to.

Why we can't make an appointment for our child, is completely baffling. Some of us can't wait for 3 hours in a line-up. We have jobs and other responsibilities that require our time. But if you had taken your kid in October, you would have been in and out in 25 minutes. We took my 2 year old daughter one week before Christmas for hers and my husband's vaccines and had no wait at all, the place was a near dead zone. (No pun intended). Has your son never had the flu shot? If not, yes he'd need two, but if he had it last year, he only needs one.

Everyone that is around my son, with the exception of a couple people, have had the FLU shot. So I guess he'll be fine. Still, it's a little concerning.

The nasal one is actually a live virus made quite differently. Unfortunately, it's for 2+ only

We know we dropped the ball. Every time we meant to take him, he was either napping, fighting his cold or something else came up. It's been difficult to make the time. He's never had a flu shot.

Nope it's different, the nasal kind is a live attenuated virus as opposed to a dead flu virus. So the supply might be different.

EDIT: Ooops sorry I misread one of your posts, I read that your kid was 9, not under 9

I didn't go into all the details. It's not 100% flu but according to the symptoms and blood work the most likely, apparently. I'm no doctor, nor pharmacist, just going on what I was told.

Sorry, wasn't meaning to be preachy. It's just a lot of people put gastroenteritis in with the flu and it causes undo confusion. Your doctor would know better than I what you had, but with those symptoms it sounds like it wasn't flu

I would expect partial protection from the first shot though, which might reduce the chance of getting it or reduce severity - maybe one of our local immunologists/doctors has some thoughts there (my expertise is more the bad things the additives don't do to you than the benefits side).

Looks like we're lining up on Friday. Talked to 3 different nurses on Health Link. All insisted there was no shortage, despite what media and the health minister are reporting. Odd.

I guess partial vaccination is better than nothing.

Have you cleared that concern with a doctor? My son has egg allergy (albeit a bad rash, not anaphylactic) but he has had it 2 years now. No problems.

Of course verify win your doctor, but there maybe an alternative (nasal?)

Not to be all panicky, but my wife is 5 months preg too. She was sure to get hers as we have read stuff like this:

And for everyone else who says "who cares, I'm healthy"....this is why you get vaccines. Assuming his wife can't get the vaccine, others getting their prevents HER from getting infected.

I've been told that if you can eat baked goods with egg ingredient in it without a reaction, then you are good to have the injectable vaccine.

Ugh, now that the the vaccine is being pushed in the media, it has created a lot of discussion on my facebook feed. All on women's profiles for some reason; full of overblown stories, junk "science", and hearsay. I'm out numbered trying to talk some sense into them. It's actually saddening watching them choose not to get the shot for their children or themselves because of crap reasons.
