Botchford's grilling on That's Hockey now on TSN.ca's main page!
Wow he got roasted.

As opposed to throwing out a shot about my reputation here, why not be adults and debate the topic at hand?
I clearly stated a few posts ago that I don't think botch should have ran with it.
Not blaming Joe, but there is some responsibility on him as well. Do you debate that? If so, why?

If me stating that you defend the Vancouver media at every turn is considered a shot then so be it.
It has been said by several high profile reporters already that they didn't like that he reported an off topic joke. Someone else already mentioned that it is telling that out of the 20 reporters who were there that only one reported it. If that doesn't make you stop blindly defending this guy then I don't know what else to say.
Joe Thornton should expect that off the record comments stay off the record while the reporters are in their room.

I agree with you, of course Joe has some responsibility, he probably just got caught up in the moment of it. Fair enough.
But at the same time, Botchford isnt the only one who heard it, hes the only one who reported it.
His seeming reason being that it was his job, and if he didnt do it he'd get 'called to the carpet.'
So now, are the other 19 reporters who kept their mouths shut going to get 'called to the carpet' whatever the hell that even means?
Its a pretty well known fact that they cant report everything that goes on in the room, but the majority of reporters let it slide in order to maintain their access privileges.
Botchford seemingly did more to damage his job/reputation by reporting it than by letting it slide.

Are you not reading what I posted?
I'm talking about Joe and whether or not he should have said what he said at that time. His comments going public are his fault as well. That is what I am saying, do you debate that? If so, why?

But how are those off the record comments when there's cameras rolling and recorders recording? If those cameras or microphones were live to air on tv or radio, there'd be no hiding here. Those were simply not off the record comments and if they are meant that way, Joe's got a responsibility to say something.
Now, you can say Botch didn't follow the code and that's fine, but that's a different debate. Those were not off the record comments.

Yep, time will tell if his reputation is going to take a major hit. I think this will all go away pretty quickly here though.

But they weren't live to air and everyone involved was probably well aware of that fact so why bring it up?

You're just making assumptions. Plenty of scrums go live on the air.

That's amazing. And the arrogance of Botchford in his TSN interview didn't help his cause - Any chance he had of this 'going away' left the room with that performance.
Vancouver media is without doubt the worst for fanboyism in North America. And reading through Cam Cole and Botchford's Twitter accounts, they're even throwing each other under the bus now.

From a morning skate? When? And who is airing these morning skate scrums?
Regardless I would bet money that the players know when a scrum is going live.

Botchford is a hack so this is a win at the worst (great quote), win-win at the best (great quote + fired Botchford)

The code is exactly a situation like this. Joe said something that he probably didn't want out there(my assumption), but said it to a group of people assuming the reporters wouldn't say anything. Botchford did. He had every right to, but there's the debate as to whether or not he should have. I personally don't think he should have.
But the comments weren't off the record in that Joe never told the guys not to run with it and given the amount of people around with cameras/recorders, if he didn't want it out there, he should have.
But I'm reading a group of people that Joe did this on purpose to get the attention away from Hurtl and that's clearly what has happened the last 4-5 hours.

Team 1040 airs coaches live from morning skate. Home coach at podium, road coach in a scrum.
I agree, the amount of live scrums that go live to air is extremely small, but what if Thornton jumped in like that during a live one?
I've heard the audio of what happened, the microphones picked up what he said.

If hacks like Botchford keep posting things like this, players are just going to get dressed and leave without any comments. If they feel that any clearly not meant for outside ears joke will be repeated, they won't say any. This will ruin the dressing room for the players and the media. The fans will lose out because the players will just give canned responses when required.

I think if anything this confirms that the general level of the banality in a dressing room room remains a constant from novice, to the nhl to beer league.......
Frankly I am glad that the sharks did not try to play the old it was taken out of context ploy!
So if a goal, an apple and assist is a Geordie Howe hat trick, and three goals is a hat trick then four goals is a now a taffy pull?
