Insight from Feaster on Cundari. Says he didn't look good in Saskatoon, was better in Regina. It's so much better when we can see the games.

Is there a link to Feaster's interview? Or is it still unfolding?

The most logical explanation is that Cundari had a crap camp.

IMHO, the most reasonable explanation is that NHL teams don't necessarily cut players in order of talent or potential.
There are many other factors and I strongly suspect that there are players still in camp that weren't better than players cut today. I'm guessing that some guys were kept to get a closer look at the player in different situations to assess what kind of asset they have.
The Flames have a pretty good read on Cundari from his time with the club last season, but already know he's lower on the depth chart for now and belongs in Abbotsford.

Cundari as a first round cut is a bit surprising. Same as Poirrier, I figured they would have had longer looks at both of them but I didn't think Poirrer would make it as a 18 year old.
I liked what I saw from him though.
Good young prospect.
Wotherspoon, Smith and Kanzig likely bumped Cundari down to the AHL.
Pretty cool that Kanzig made the first cut being still eligible for Jr.

That may not be the case for Knight.

I'm very happy for Jooris. The guy definitely deserves the long look he's gotten from the way he's played, however I don't see how he has a chance at sticking.
I don't think Knight has done enough either. Monahan could very well stick, and I wouldn't complain.

I hope Monahan continues to impress and make the team but it won't be bad for him to play for team Canada this year either. I think knight is getting better every game he plays so he could make it too. Reinhart is similar to knight in alot of ways so they might both be battling for the same spot as an extra forward.

You're right that he didn't show anything in the last game or two, but judging by how he was used (fourth line role, no PP time at all) and by the fact that he stayed in Calgary while most of the kids played two games elsewhere, the coaches had already decided he'd get past the first cut and were looking more at other players.
Byron on the other hand didn't receive a very long look for a guy that Feaster thought was close to the NHL in previous seasons.
Not surprised by the decision to cut Ortio, given that they have three older goalies two of whom need to get used to the ice, but as a competitive guy he has to feel bad about not getting more than 30 minutes of proper preseason action. I think he could outplay the other two Euros if everything was equal. Probably more talented than Rämö, but of course experience counts for a lot.

Meh, I think they're only keeping him around so that there's a big d-man around to practice against.

Hey sorry I'm late to the party, and this has probably been asked a bunch of times, but did none of the college guys attend camp? Eg. Jankowski, Gaudreau, Gillies, Arnold, etc.
Is that because of the new CBA or something?
