Funny thread.
I'm not automatically a fan of unions and their causes, many of which are flawed.
there's a lot of hypocrisy too within them. They're all for eachother up to a point when seniority kicks in and then those with less seniority get thrown under the bus.
Having said that I'm all in favor of them existing and sometimes they do fight the good fight. I've noticed though that the unions with very little bite or power are the ones mostly needed and those with more power tend to not have a bad situation for their workers already, and then become friviolous.
People tend to misunderstand their intents a lot too. Take the CBC lockout which I'm not an expert on in the slightest. The CBC wants the ability to hire contract workers. Even if its the real world, no union is not going to fight that precident setting issue. And as we all know all the corporations you all seem to trust implicitly and adore would never do anything wrong would they?
Alot of the time the dollar price for salary is not what's at stake, like the NHL CBA there's a lot of language that needs to be refinded and if it's not, it can and was twisted and the intent was abandoned. This is what takes a lot of time in negotiations and to the naked eye looks like all they want is more money or are sending back the exact same agreement, but infact there are mass changes to intent.
I also love the fact that anyone sticks up for the pig company walmart.

These employee's have ample knowledge of what they're getting when they go to Walmart to work, if you don't like the conditions or options available to you, then don't work there.

Can't the same be said for workers in alberta that join a unionized shop. If they want to griev something and you don't like it maybe you should just go get a different job. There's plenty to go around in Alberta as stated.
Works both ways.
I'm for or against them on a case by case basis.
