I think we have to have an understanding on an object like the Kirpan, before we sit there and call it a weapon instead of an article of faith.

http://worldsikh.ca/page/understanding-kirpan

If you ban people from working in government buildings for wearing the Kirpan then you will literally lock out a workforce for discriminatory reasons. I don't see how this won't get challenged 10 ways to sunset in the Surpreme Court.

If Quebec uses the not withstanding clause they come across as pretty much bigots.

Probably because they've become more of a fashion accessory then anything else.

Yeah, it wouldn't have anything to do with most of the PQ's base being Christian and the PQ's overall racist attitude towards minorities.

I think you are ignoring the big cross in the group of 5 icons at the bottom as also being unacceptable.

I totally agree with kevin O'Leary from the CBC on this - surely this is good news for the rest of Canada? She's probably ensured that she won't get elected next time and then Quebec can sort its books out!

You mean the overtly "eastern/orthodox" christian cross. Yeah, I guess I should have said "western christianity is a-ok"

What a load of garbage this whole thing is. A Sikh man can't wear a turban, but they are going to leave crosses up because they are part of Quebec's heritage.

Quite honestly, if this goes through, it should be the last straw for Quebec. If they want their separate society to include this, then it's time for that society to become a little more separate.

Quite frankly, I don't see how any court could possibly uphold this. It's a total infringement on basic and fundamental liberties, and it is a huge deal. This makes all of Canada look like a bunch of bigots. The fact that this is even on the table in Quebec, let alone the fact it is being democratically supported, sickens me.

The fact that Western Canada is providing Quebec with approximately 8 billion dollars in transfer payments makes this even more discusting. Time to turn off the tap. The idea of my tax dollars going to support this fascist garbage makes me sick.

So back to Hockey, does Carry Price need to remove the cross on the back of his helmet?

I think the difference is in the overt and large nature of the bottom as opposed to the top, not that it's an Orthodox cross. Which I'm not sure you could say it is for sure.

I'm not agreeing with the PQ, btw. It's just that there isn't any real "Christian" headgear you can show (maybe a Pope hat, which would be hilarious) so they picked a big chunky pimp cross for their 'non!" poster to illustrate that bad taste is also not acceptable for government workers.

How does it work when they fly? Are they allowed to wear them or do they have to buy a new one when they land?

Absolute joke that this type of garbage is being proposed in Canada, of all places. Quebec, you certainly are "unique". Its up to the residents of Quebec to squash this type of divisive legislation, but somehow I can't help but think that many in that province think this is ok. This is a national disgrace.

You know, they might have won some people over if they had put this on the "not acceptable" list.
