Anchorage seems like a good place to focus on your hockey skillz. Not too many distractions up there, methinks.

At the very least it will get them ready for the harder NHL travel in the west.

Some of the fringe AHL players like Howse have extra incentive to have a good camp this year. Never been to Anchorage, but i have a feeling that it makes Abbotsford winters look like Florida winters.

When Brossoit plays for Team Canada in a future Olympics, the experience will come in handy.

Pretty sure Subban was called a hold out last year.

just because Subban was called something does not make it accurate.

A restricted free agent is still a free agent. No Contract = No Play. The only difference between Bancks and say Steve Begin is the Flames have the right to match if Bancks signs elsewhere.

Spoiler!
The Aces drew only about 100 more people per game last year than the Grizzlies, both 900-1000 higher than Abbotsford.

"Hold out" is an accepted and recognized term for a restricted free agent who misses training camp due to not having signed a qualifying offer and or failing to come to a contractual agreement with his team. A free agent is "free" to "hold out" and withhold his services.

except a play is not allowed to play without a contract, they are not withholding anything. They are not allowed to play.

It's accepted, but it shouldn't be because it's not accurate. Like the people that say "I could care less" it's accepted but inaccurate.

Why are the teams not considered to be holding out? Afterall they are withholding financial compensation.

A hold out is a player that is refusing to play under the terms of their contract. Someone like Alexei Yashin when he forced his trade out of Ottawa. or Nieuwendyk when he foorced his trade out of Calgary.

This is true. Being a RFA, you cannot freely sign with any team you choose and are thus linked to the team who holds your rights. Therefore, an option you have is to "hold out" for more money (hoping for a bigger offer, or for an offer sheet to force their hand).
Either way, "hold out" is a 100% legitimate term regarding a RFA.

Not accurate. A hold out can hold out for multiple reasons, including better contract offers or ideal conditions. You do not have to be under contract to be considered a hold out (based on all English and legal definitions of 'hold out')
