I just downloaded the first 4 episodes and this thread was bumped in the middle of me watching the first episode for the first time. Interesting.
Anyway, quick question, I have the episode titled season 1 episode 1 but it says "previously on Battlestar Galactica" and shows a whole other episode. Is there a pilot out there that I'm missing or something?
Also, is there a season 1 and season 2 dvd out yet?

Totally blew my fracking head off. It was really that good. Once again the show defies convention and heads off into uncharted territory - and yet somehow pulls it off.
Love the new Cylon model btw. Nice work.
What episode is Canada up to? I want to talk about this stuff, without worrying about ruining it for others!

Canada will be watching the appearance of Pegasus on Saturday, the season 2.0 cliffhanger.
Basically, we're 11 episodes behind with Season 2.5 starting next week.
I am sad.
If you're inclined, I would suggest you start a Season 2.5 Spoiler Thread if you want and keep this as a non-spoiler thread.

There is a mini-series which lays the groundwork for the entire thing, from peace to war - about 3.5 hours long. You can probably rent it.

Don't be sad. You have 11 kick ass episodes to look forward to! Ahh Pegasus...the memories. So many questions regarding that ship.

Does the miniseries begin with them running from the Zylons and some blond girl talking to some weird british guy?

No.
The mini-series begins with a blond chick (Six) walking down a corridor on a space station and asking a human negotiator:
"Are you alive?"
The next scene is one of peace . . . . humanity hasn't seen or heard from the Cylons for 40 years.

No. It opens with a human ship arriving at a space station, and a text overlay of the history of human/cylon relations. Then #6 (tall, blond, wears red, you'll know her when you see her) walks on screen, kisses the human, and...things sort of go from there...

well, thought i'd restart this thread after last night's episode (part 2 of 3 of the Pegasus arc).
Fantastic is all I can say - very "I, Claudius" in terms of its backroom dealing and political machinations...
Just ordered the first season on DVD - looking forward to catching the episodes I missed...

So what of Admiral Cain?
Is this woman a monster? Or a warrior doing what she has to in order to survive? Is she the person to make the hard decisions for the good of mankind? Or just a madwoman bent on revenge for the destruction of the Colonial fleet?
Or worse yet a Cylon? Part of some unknown plan, which does not call for the immediate destruction of all humans? The Pegasus appears to be in fine fighting trim - well armed, sophisticated, and fully staffed. How is this possible? Galactica was spared in the inital Cylon attack because its systems weren't networked. Cain indicated she made a blind jump to flee the attack. Her first officer indicated they had seen combat where she shot her own XO in front of the bridge staff.
She claims her goal is the liberation of the Colonial homeworlds from the Cylons. How can she think this is a possiblity with only 2 battlestars and a population of merely 50K?
Or is her goal more realistic than that of Adama and Rosaline? Who are following visions and scripture to a mythical planet - location unknown.
A great new character.

For those that have seen episode 20, highlight the following text to discuss:
Wow what a mind blower of a season clincher! Don't know what any of them are going to do! Have the cylons turned over a new page and are nicer? Did the cylon that exploded the nuke know what she was doing, in terms of attracting the cylon fleet to the world? Where's Adama going to go with so few crew or people and what's the point!? Too many questions and the series can't return fast enough.

Just watched Resurection Ship part II, and I have to admit, I certainly didn't see that ending coming.
What a terrific show, almost makes me want to break out the original series so I can laugh at how cheesy it was.

Just saw the one this weekend.
What is going to happen with Baltar, does Laura remember what she was seeing in that vision? Does she remember that he was making out with that cylon?

it sure looked like she remembered Baltar...nice to see Colm Feore (sp) in the episode (he was in the Chronicles of Riddick and the Trudeau miniseries).
Simon Frazer University looked great - in winter though, I hear they have a higher number of suicides because of the rain and fog (the University is on top of a mountain)...

Resurrection Ship Part II was pure poetry . . . . . awesome episode. Lee Adama losing the sunglasses and sliding under the water . . . .
Dana Delaney last week played her part well, and once again you are stuck trying to decide if the bad guys are really villians after all.
The Scar episode was good but I have to agree with Mike F's observation earlier that Starbuck's character is getting annoying as the season wears on.
I know a mother who was crying when there was no obvious, clear resolution to the child trafficking in "Black Market."
Canada will see the new commander of the Pegasus this Saturday.
Here's David Eick on season 3 . . . . . no spoilers here in his comments for those on the Canadian viewing schedule:

And yet another cartoon reference to Galactica

Battlestar will have its own comic book series:

A bit of a controversy as to whether or not these Battlestar cartoons are racist or not:

Funny reference to Battlestar in the Calgary Herald a few weekends ago under when local bigwigs were asked for their "guilty pleasures," the 30 something female head of the Banff Film Festival gave a rousing endorsement of Battlestar Galactica.
Also, Rob Kerr, erstwhile hockey host at FAN 960, listed Battlestar Galactica as his favourite show in the Calgary SUN a couple of weekends ago.
Also, Dennis Haysbert, who used to be president Palmer in 24, likes BSG and would like to appear in the show.
Quote:
OK, so what shows, besides 'The Unit', are you watching now?
That's really hard to say. I really do enjoy 'CSI.' 'CSI' is, for a procedural show, a very, very compelling show. I love 'Six Feet Under,' although that's no longer on.
And your favorite?
One of my favorites -- because I'm a big sci-fi buff -- I really enjoy 'Battlestar Galactica.' I'd really like to do a [story] arc on that one of these days, just to walk around on the set. It's so dark, so gritty, and the realism for a science fiction show -- I mean, you know it's not real -- but the way they play it is so real. And there's a compelling story line. I'd have to put that on the top of my list. That's actually on my TiVo season pass.

You forgot to quote the part about the Mormons. I personally find the South Park Mormons episode to be a much better Church of LDS primer than BSG.
