Pretty pumped by this prospect. He was #1 on my list ( after the "big 4") and glad the flames got him. He has future captain written all over him.

I am more excited about him than possibly any prospect the flames have drafted. The fact he joins the organization and is not the only high ceiling prospect is pretty awesome as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do better than the Oilers, We could surprise. We do have a few vets and a few young guys who have already gotten their feet wet in the NHL. So right now we have a little bit of everything. At least we are a bigger stronger team and should be a little faster and less players with Bourque syndrome.

Monahan eager to live up to contract after signing first pro deal with Flames

In a summer crammed with memorable moments, this day, too, will be tough to forget.
“Pretty crazy, to be honest,” Monahan said Monday from his family’s home in Brampton, Ont. “My agent (Pat Morris) told me to go to his (Mississauga) office. He was negotiating a contract for a little bit and I ended up signing, so it was really exciting. I’m going to go back right now and sign the rest of the contracts with my parents there.
“So it’s a pretty unbelievable feeling.”

“There really wasn’t much to negotiate,” said Monahan, who turns 19 in October. “The contract (finalization) is over. Now the real work is still there . . . a lot of hard work to prove why I got the contract.”
Monahan, by the way, has no immediate plans for his new-found cash.
“Just save it,” he said. “Whatever comes up, I’ll be able to use my own money now.”

In a preview of sorts, Monahan had appeared at the Flames’ development jamboree last week. One of five first-round picks on the ice, he was nonetheless blown away by a fourth-rounder, Johnny Gaudreau, who had been his linemate for both scrimmages.
“A real special player,” said Monahan, “and it was just awesome being able to play with him.”
Monahan also made sure that he took care of his own business at WinSport’s Ice Complex.
“I did what I wanted to do,” said the six-foot-two, 195-pounder. “I think I did pretty good in the fitness testing, I worked hard on the ice and tried to do the things I’m good at, I tried to be good with the fans, and just be the person I am. It went well and, obviously, resulted in a contract, which is pretty nice.”

Monahan ecstatic to sign entry level deal with Calgary

When Sean Monahan answered the phone this afternoon, his elation over signing a three-year entry level contract with the Calgary Flames was immediately evident.
"It means the world to me," the 18 year-old told CalgaryFlames.com. "Obviously getting drafted was an awesome experience but now, to be officially inked in with Calgary ... it is an honour.
"I want to do whatever I can to make them proud and show that I earned this contract."

With contract negotiations behind him, Monahan is now focusing on preparing for the 2013 Young Stars Classic, running Sept. 5-9 in Penticton, BC, and the Flames main training camp. His time at development camp gave him a taste of what to expect in September and he is looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.
"I learned how the organization works," he said of his time in Calgary earlier this month. "It's all about hard work. Everyone I met and every one I worked with were really down to Earth and now I know what to expect come training camp."

In addition to working with coaches in the organization on the ice, prospects also consulted with Flames strength and conditioning coach Rich Hesketh on a regular basis. He combed over each player's individual fitness testing results, showing them which areas they excelled in and what they needed to work on. The players also attended a nutrition seminar to enhance their day-to-day training regimens and overall fitness levels.
"Rich is a first class guy and I learned a lot from him," Monahan stated. "I want continue working on my strength training and change up my diet a bit ... I'm going to be working really hard this summer to get ready for camp."
