I would be very pleased with that. I think all parties come out pleased actually... Backs gets some security and the Flames get what I believe would be an excellent value deal down the road.

He is not, not enough tenure.

Why do people keep thinking Gio is going to get moved (not directed at you but I read it on here all the time)…. Feaster flat out stated at the season ticket holder event that he’s our next captain.

I'm actually kind of impressed. I expected the Flames to go out and sign plugs like Raymond and Roy today but so far Feaster's been a man of his word with regards to this rebuilding thing.

I wouldn't. A statistical comparable in Roman Josi just got 7 years at 4 million. Brodie and his agent could easily leverage that into 3.5.
The difference between them is TOI and there's no roadblock to Brodie's ice time this year.

Agree to disagree then. I think the Flyers would do very well adding another 50+ points per season for only $3M and Cammalleri has shown himself to elevate his game in the playoffs (something the Flyers sorely need).
Cammi by himself might not get Couturier but if the Flames are eating $3M for him to play in Philly then I think that cash makes it a fair trade.

Josi, Fowler and Hamonic are signed at 4M or less on long term contracts while Subban, Kulikov and Leddy are signed at under 3M with their 2 year bridge contracts.
3.5M for Brodie, based on those contracts at least, is a bit of an overpayment. Worth it to keep him around if that's the only way but wouldn't be Feaster working any magic if he has to sign him at that.

That's redonkulas. You'd call giving up a 20yo center who'll probably be a legit top line two-way center when he hits his prime in exchange for 1 year of Cammy fair? Crazy talk.

Feaster talked about how giving Monahan and Knight the opportunity to challenge for a spot. Sounds like the same goes for most of the youngsters.

Really hope that Backlund does not go to arbitration. From what i have heard and read, the only way for the GM to keep the ruling down, money wise on a player, is to basically trash them.
Backlund seems to have genuine love for the flames and the city of Calgary. That could change very quickly if he does not like what he hears in the courtroom.

Agreed, but I'd love to see him go to arbitration with his point prodution and games played the last few years.

Yea i don't see him winning it, but like i said before he will be trashed in front of an arbitrator and then end up not getting what he wants. Not a good situation going forward.
I wonder how far they are apart? Your above post shows why the flames should be on the low side. I could see Backlund looking at the roster and thinking he will be a top 6 center on the team, so he needs to get paid.

Asking another team to pay $3M for a player on your roster so that you can basically circumvent the cap and field a contending team this year is what makes it fair.
I realize that most Armchair GMs with EA Sports GM experience have no concept of the value of money beyond cap space but in the real world money itself has significant value.

At which point he can hold up a chart showing Boyd Gordon's point production the last few years and a copy of his shiny new 3M per year contract. Maybe he walks out making even more then that. Arbitration is an ugly process that can poison the relationship and you're never guarenteed to walk out with a deal you like.
It's best avoided.
