Will Rafikov along with the other drafted players be invited to training camp?
I'm not certain what the CBA rules are regarding training camps and KHL players, Anyone know?

old news?

Igor Eronko ‏@IgorEronko 19h #Flames 2013 7th round selection Rushan Rafikov says he's s glad to be selected but will definitely spend next 2 years in #Lokomotiv

Quote:
"I want to play one day here, but now only Lokomotiv," he said.
"It's honour to be chosen at the draft but my future is now Lokomotiv where I have a two-year contract," said Rafikov
"If something goes wrong in Russia, I'll go overseas to change opinions in Calgary about Russians."

The exact quote is "If something goes wrong in Russia, I'll go overseas.." which could easily be interpreted as something changing over the next two years of his contract in the KHL and not his whole career. I'd be surprised if that wasn't what he meant - can anyone think of a Russian who came to North America because their career wasn't working out in the KHL?

Similar to Backlund leaving Sweden to play for Kelowna Rockets?

Didn't know where else to put this but, Rafikov has been cut from the Russian's WJC team per the Tournament's official twitter account:

2014 World Juniors ‏@2014IIHFWJC 43m
Russia's final cuts: "@croulmane: Rafikov and Gavrikov won't play for Russia at @2014IIHFWJC" #WJC

Still eligible for next years tournament

That's too bad. I was looking forward to seeing more of him. I really liked what I saw in the Subway Series. He's got a nice little nasty streak in him.

Nikita Zadorov was the lone 95' birthdate to make the Russian defense this year, so I think it is safe to assume that Rushan is all but a lock to suite up for the squad next season.

After being part of the Russian team for Canada's U20 development camp, Rafikov's gonna be part of the U20 team for Russia's Four Nations Cup entry.

I didn't realize that he has another year left of eligibility. Softens the blow, for sure.
I know the odds are long for a guy drafted 187, but I do have hopes he develops into an NHLer.

Man that's a bummer. He was doing good against the likes of McDavid and the 2014 first rounders.

I too was impressed by his play in the U20 Development Camp. Good, crisp passer with quick, intelligent decision making and good positioning. Played on the PP and looked good. What's not to like.

Why is no one discussing him? Keeping up a ppg pace in the WJHC whilst being an anchor on the Russian defense.
