Such a one sided debate, at least Sakic vs. Iginla had some ground
^ Edit: The above was written before reading the OP ^
Two guys run out of a bar to a man standing in a parking lot:
"Dude what the hell! YOU ABANDONED US!"
Iginla: "I'm sorry guys, I was asked to leave, I didn't want to cause a problem"
"YEAH WELL ALFIE DIDN'T ABANDON US! HE DIDN'T LISTEN! He didn't listen to them, he refused! He stayed to the bitter end and took his beating like a MAN before being dragged out the back door on a stretcher!"
Iginla: "Guys, I was ASKED to leave! What was I supposed to do? Stay and fight and get you guys thrown out too like he did? I did what I thought was right and left for the betterment of you guys, so you wouldn't get that black eye and so Alfie wouldn't have to go to the hospital. What ever guys, I'm outta here, I would rather spend my time trying to win over Stanleyetta then hang out with a bunch of inconsiderate asses like yourselves!"
Iginla slams the door of his Tahoe shut and rolls down the window:
Iginla: "I didn't abandon you, you abandoned me"
Iginla peels out of the parking lot

I will never forget the time I saw Daniel Alfredsson at Earls Tin Palace. It was after a Sens 4-2 win over the Flames about a decade ago. He was laughing it up with teammates and was a really nice guy to the waitress. I decided to walk up to the table and said, "Excuse me Mr. Alfredsson, I wanted to say congratulations on a great win tonight. Although it was against my beloved Flames, I wanted to say, that as a hockey fan, your team game was so strong and I greatly appreciated watching you." He looked me in the eye for about 3 seconds then turned back to his fellow team mates and continued laughing and carrying on as if I didn't exist. I had hoped my thoughtful appreciation of his team's play would at the very least garner a "Thank you", but being completely ignored was uncalled for.
Jarome would NEVER have been so rude and dismissive... as a result, I will forever hold Mr. Iginla in the highest esteem and hold Danial Alfredsson in no esteem at all.
Nothing will ever change my mind.

That's an awful experience. Also what I've heard from multiple sources (Swedish friends and people I know somehow) who have met Alfredsson, all they had to say :"he's a D bag".

Did you really say it the way you quoted?
I met Alfredsson at the Ottawa airport just after the playoffs one year. He was perfectly courteous to me. We shook hands, I thanked him for smoking Tucker.
Exactly? Possibly not. But it was damn close. I do a lot of public speaking and always formulate what I say before I speak to or before people. In this particular case, there were roughly 6 teammates in the party and I thought it appropriate to speak to the Team Captain due to the station accorded him. I was thoughtful, respectful and positive and in return I was treated as though my existence had no merit in his eyes. Way to set a good example for the younger teammates.
I'm glad you had a good experience with him, perhaps he is better one on one with no one to impress... But if that is indeed the case, then it speaks to his character that he feels the need to impress others by belittling a fan of the sport in front of his teammates...
If Iggy did that during our cup run we would have thought it was cool. Plenty of people outside of Calgary didn't think Iggy's consistent running around attacking the nearest player for a fight after every loss was classy either.

These would have been (or were) fights between "consenting adults". Seems more classy than shooting a puck at someone. I think plenty of people would view it that way, too.

Speaking of comparables. Remember that time when Dion Phaneuf was a 20 goal Norris Runner-up?
Maybe instead of comparing Karlsson to Brodie or Havlat to Weimer or Spezza to David Moss, we should draw comparisons to their equivalents that Iginla played with on one team?
Crazy talk, I know, but remember when the Flames won the division with a 20 goal future Norris nominee? Wouldn't that guy be a better comparable? What about an 50 assist winger in Tanguay or a 40 goal scorer in Cammalleri, in the primes of their careers.
Did Alfie ever play on a team where the goalie won the Vezina?
What superstars did Alfredsson play with this season?
I had no idea they were so close in career stats, and that Affie was ahead of Iggy?!
56 and 57 in career points respectively!
