People are still pissed off about stuff that happen almost 1,000 years ago. How screwed up is that?

I think that one could make an effective argument that many of the recent bombings and other terrorist like activities are not tied primarily to religion but rather to a perceived view of oppression of their native land and citizenry by western powers.

Amazing you've been here this long and you can't differentiate between being an apologist and people against bigotry and ignorance. No one is defending the attack.

Not so much anymore, frankly most young Irish like myself don't want any fighting and think the while bloody thing is ridiculous.

My point was that the fighting in Ireland wasn't strictly about religion, it was about occupation as well.

Our human species is susceptible to extreme manipulation and extreme violence. The 'flavour' of the ideology (religion, tribe, sect, race) is a red herring. We do this to each other all over history and all over the world. Its baked into human DNA.

It is all too easy to fall into an us/them mentality and when we believe 'an eye for an eye' and 'if I sacrifice myself my tribe will be better off'....then this crap happens.

I say that we shouldn't give these thugs ANY satisfaction of media exposure...since it is pretty obvious that is their mandate.

I never said it was a country and there was an Ireland prior to 1921...but anyways, Ireland/Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland..the island was a byword for sectarian violence for decades. Every single religion has its sects that disagree with eachother and those groups tend to be the most vicious. Islam isn't the only religion with crazies.

Not an insult ... more of a term of endearment .... and a fact. You're a plastic paddy pretending to be an expert on a conflict you know nothing about. You wanna get all upset for being called on it? Fine.

There was me thinking it was you irish who were the dregs of society

Anyway if you want to start up the old UK v Roi war make another thread i could argue all night

The violence that happened there is irrelevant to whats happened today and should not be compared

Bart: Whacking Day is a sham. It was originally conceived in 1922 as an excuse to beat up on the Irish.

Old Irishman: 'Tis true. I took many a lump, but 'twas all in good fun.
