He became coach in December of 02/03. During the off season he added GM to his title. He was coach and GM during 03/04, the year they went on that memorable playoff run.

Yes. I remember the speculation that he was going to coach the 04/05 season and then hand coaching duties to somebody else. He decided to coach the 05/06 season since there was no 04/05 season. Things went downhill from there.

Too bad they are division rivals:

Which of the Oilers would best be targeted in a trade?

Eberle: signed the $6M deal and has the biggest performance / $ fall off since Phanuef. 12 goals in 41 games translates to 24 goal season.. This is supposed to be the Oilers version of Iginla.

Could he be had for a package of players similar to Phanuef? Stajan, Tanguay and Brodie?

Hall : Looks to be the best of the bunch replacing Eberle as the real deal.

RNH. Still young but small and frail and 3 goals in 38 games this year??!! He is at the same development level as Baertschi..... likely would have benefited from more development time (and time to muscle up) either in junior or in the AHL... at least he is a year away from his big contract .... which likely won't be the long term $6M deals that Hall and Eberle have gotten.

Yapokov another small guy that needs to have bigger physical linemates. Has done as well as should be expected.

Gagner yet another small forward.... only 23 years old least sizzle and reasonable contract possible as he is a RFA.

Who will get traded and for what?

I am just so disappointed in the Flames following Edmonton's lead and stocking up on small skilled forwards.

I don't think that Edmonton will get as much return for these guys ..... Hodgson was close to being as good as them .

The new small golden age of the NHL is not here yet. Sutter understood that good big players win more games than better than small skilled guys.

MacT fired by Tambo and now replaces Tambo. Kevin Lowe the puppet master. Looks like they're aiming for a few more first overall picks. Love how they have Scott Howson, as he will likely replace MacT after he fails.

Nope. Darryl tool over as coach/GM at the end of the 2003 season. He was coach/GM for the 04 run.

I actually feel bad for Oiler fans. Not only does their team suck, but it will continue to suck for a long time.

Kevin Gibson@TSNResearch32s

EDM .436PTS% in Tambellini tenure, worst in NHL in that span

The Blue Jackets record when Howson was fired: 4-7-2

The Blue Jackets record since Howson was fired: 15-9-5

Clearly the Oilers want that fourth straight #1 pick and are willing to do whatever it takes to get it.

Too much success! Anything less than a #1 overall pick is not good enough!

Winning the lottery saved him last season!

Is that a hockey club or a circus they run in Edmonton?

This is a nice reminder that while things are bad in Flames land, it could always be worse.

Can't wait for the Oilers tribute video for Tambo. It will consist of him winning three straight lotteries and the draft parties going wild.

Calgary AHL team is the straw that broke the Greasers back. lols.

The only problem now is are the Greasers going to put in an effort for the highest pick again, and tank the rest of the year.

Pause Button was technically the GM when we went on our run in 03-04, but the moves we made after Sutter was hired had his fingers all over them.

Yeah! What do you think they have been doing since the 8-2 win in Calgary?

Out with the old in with the old. The Oilers just can't let go.

Incorrect. Sutter was coach and GM for 2003-2004 season.
