I actually respect Getzlaf for not taking the easy way out and shaving his head totally bare like most people who go bald these days. Good for him, I think that got him an extra million.
And more rare and impressive feat is the sparse spike look. That was what took the AAV from 8 to 8.25

... taking away all the guys that I expect will remain with their current club that leaves Perry, the annual "who gonna sign Alex Semin" contest, and a whole lotta meh.
People are seriously calling this an overpayment for a top centerman in the league and a franchise player in his prime?
I would have been over the moon if he had signed here for that, we all knew he was never leaving the Ducks tho.
That said, no home town discount whatsoever.
You would have been MOON after 1 year into that contract.
hahaha. People think he is worth that much. Maybe in the old cba! Maybe they'll take Jackman off us because they will have to play 5 Jackmans to get under the cap.
Oh yeah, I know. I'm always just surprised by his lower goal totals. He never comes across as a elite passer but I suppose it's the overall game and physical play that gets him those point totals.
I'd say he's an elite passer.
Watch his 10 foot passes tonight. Great passer.
In this last one, he makes two WICKED passes, one off the backhand in the neutral zone, the other directly preceding the goal.

How many top centermen are in the league? How much do you expect to pay to get one? Honestly tho, how much would you have offered Getzlaf assuming he would not give any form of home town discount?
Don't troll, add to the discussion. What is a top centerman worth to you?
Anyone here not think he is better than Brad Richards? What did he sign for?
What a bullet dodged there.
Due to those added on 1 million per year Brad Richards' contract averages out to just about 6.4 a year. Don't care what his salary is year-to-year, I'm not paying it. As a fan all I care about is the cap hit. Hard to compare salaries/cap hits thought considering they're under two different CBA's.
As for who is the better player, coming into their contract years? Debatable might I might go with Richards. Can see going with Getzlaf too.
^ Unless you are counting this year in which Getzlaf is playing fantastic so far (27 points in 22 games), and has the Ducks in second place in the conference.
Hopefully he keeps it up since it'll help out my fantasy team. Maybe he can pot 5 tonight and still end up losing...

And hes locked up until hes 35. I personally dont like this deal, I think the Ducks got hosed.
People havent learned, you pay for potential not past performance.
He has been a PPG player in 4 of the last 5 seasons, and should get there this year as well. Getzlaf also has been stellar in the playoffs, and was key in their cup run. I see no reason why he won't put up similar numbers for years to come.
Also don't forget that they are probably going to lose Perry, and to even risk losing Getzlaf might have dealt a huge blow to their fanbase. They needed to sign one of them during the season before they tempted hitting free agency, and they won't be traded with the Ducks in second place. Next year he will now be their main selling point with Perry and Selanne likely gone.

I have to agree. Last season may have been an anomaly, but how sure of that are you? $8.25M is big, big money for any team.

He's only 27. As a non-scorer, he will likely continue to see improvements in point production over the next 3 years and then is likely to have potentially his highest output seasons in the final 2 or 3 years of his deal, ages 31-34.
If it was Ovechkin, I'd be right on board with you, but Getzlaf has a lot more going on in his game that will keep him amongst the top producers in the league.

I don't care if he's good in the locker room or if he brings other stuff to the table but there is no way in hell i would pay $8.25mil/year in a $64mil cap limit to a guy that has scored 19 19 and 11 goals the 3 previous years.
Maybe under the old cba but not this one. The Ducks are going to be in cap hell pretty damn soon.
Interestingly enough on #Ducks Getzlaf new 8 yr no move deal, his biggest SB (3M) comes in last yr of deal. Same time of a potential lockout

Selanne and Koivu will be gone after this year....okay well maybe after this year, pretty sure selanne could play until he is like ninety. So that will save a little cap. Hopefully the have cheap replacements in their system to fill all the holes that 8.25 million a year is going open up.
Here comes another lockout, the gm's and owners just do not learn from their mistakes. He's going to be making 8.25 when he is 36 years old. This deal will look terrible eventually.
Not sure why so many think this is an overpayment. The star players are still going to get their money, they just aren't tacking on "free" years to the ends of the contracts now.
You look at recent free agent signings and look at the first 8 years and this is right on par with them, if not a better deal.
Parise & Suter at 8 years would have been a 10 million cap hit.
B. Richards at 8 years would have been a 7.38 million cap hit (7 year would have been 8.29)
Weber at 8 years would have been a 11.5 million cap hit.

Perry to Pittsburgh for Bo Bennet, Simon Depres and 3 first round picks.
I'd be salivating at the opportunity to move Perry if I was the ducks.
Same here, but they are 7 points clear of third place, and have only lost 3 games in regulation all year. If they are true contenders this year it might be a mistake to move Perry.
