He plays a style of game this team is missing.. but have been beaking the Canucks about for years.

I see him out east, maybe Boston clears some room and makes him a big offer.. or Philly.

I'd rather have Getz. He would be the new Newy.

But Perry would be a good guy to replace Iggy.

Somehow he will end up a Ranger.

Yes, $8M up to 7 years.

Just think, is he worth $1.5M more then ROR?

This.

Does he bring more to the team than say Mike Cammellari + Cory Sarich?

While 8 million may be a slight overpayment, he brings far more value than an 8th D and a one dimensional forward.

Right now we're paying middle of the road guys big dollars - it is better value to give him 1-1.5 million more than he should be making rather than make some of the decisions we have made.

Definitely... a Stanley Cup and a NHL MVP... and other small accomplishments (1st team all-star, olympic gold medel, etc)

Another way of looking at it, Cammalleri+Babchuk for Corey Perry, who is worth more? Stajan+Babchuk+Sarich as well...

This guy is in the same league as Jarome Iginla in his prime... he's 28 and still in his prime. As long as the contract doesn't cripple us until he is 40 years old, you would be crazy not to at least try.

Perry is a type of player you hate playing against but love having on your team. If he goes UFA, he'll be in for a big payday. $7-8M easy.

I you give him $8 mil to 35 we will have the same conversation in six years we are having now. I would rather pay max for 5 years. But I doubt he would take that.

It forces the org to get max value at deadline in 5 years while he is still highly sought after.

But that just remind me that you don't need a player like that when you are so far away.

This team is totally unbalanced and discombobulated.

Perry would fail here too.

They trade him at the deadline to the team he will sign with, or the ducks sign him. There will be no UFA. If we need to trade Iggy to get a return, then there is no way any team lets a guy like Perry walk. Too bad Iggy wouldn't want to go to the ducks.

If perry makes it to being a UFA, i doubt he has interest in the flames. These UFAs typically look at teams trending in the correct direction and have the roster to make a push now or very soon. I believe this holds true for all top tier UFAs.

For non-top tier UFAs, then getting top line minutes, or a better pay cheque, may be sufficient to join a non-positive trending team. The flames UFA signings could be looked at as examples (wideman, hudler, cervenka).

Some may use the wild getting parise/suter as counter-arguments to my first point, but i am pretty sure the wild used the argument that they were top of the conference for the first half of the season, so there is quality there, plus they have one of the better prospect pools that are soon making a push to be on the NHL roster.

my bet is that he remains a duck, or goes to one of the big market teams: chicago/philly/vancouver/Nyr/Tor

OR goes to a team that is definitely on the rise like the blues, sens, habs (shockingly so), etc.

Agree with every poster saying building via the Center position is a higher priority.

That said, yes to Perry all day long. Easily highest talent we would have in town in a decade. Total package and would love to cheer him on here.

That said, tough to go north of $8M per on any player not currently in Penn State..

I can actually see Perry being convinced to sign in Calgary. He is an extremely driven player and I don't think signing with a contender would be end all for him. I actually hate heaping praise on him because I dislike his cheap play at times.

He seems like the kind of player who wants to be "the guy" on a team, which he certainly would be in Calgary.

I can see him in Toronto first out of any team though. Having him and Phaneuf on the same team would be sure to get under the skin of any opponent.

i think he looks at the flames centers, and considers his best option of Stajan as his linemate, and decides to look for better options.

no disrespect to stajan, playing great this year.

If I was a UFA, I'd sign in Calgary just to be able to play with Iginla and Kipper.
