Because the Flames are still going for it, I don't see why not. He'll be an improvement over some of our centers even if he sucks.
Worst case scenario is that we still remain at the bottom of the standings and might be able to get a 3rd or 4th for him. No lose really.

Arnott's scoring will be half of what it used to be if he doesn't get to play against the Flames.

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not. I don't think either Horak or Byron are particularly exciting. Which isn't to say they can't fill a role.

Please don't sign Jason Arnott.

It's not sarcasm.
I think they are more exciting than numerous, boring, seen-everything-they-have-to-offer bottom sixers.
Based on watching Arnott last season, i'd group him into that lot.

Well, if he'd play for around 1 million, he would propably be a servicable 4th liner, considering how much speed is needed from the otherlines. Considering the expected drop in production, icetime dropping to five minutes a game and terrible linemates and I think he might put up as much as 5 points. That really sounds like an important move we need to make, a truly significant upgrade. It's totally worth it, because it would so suck if the kids from Abbotsford who would be super excited to play for our sorry team would actually get some icetime here.

I'm sure any contract would be weighted heavily in the Flames favor term and cash wise. I wouldn't think you would have to worry about being saddled with a dead weight contract for 3 years or anything.
I guess it just comes down to, right here right now does Jason Arnott make the Calgary Flames a better hockey team?
I would hope they do their due diligence on him.

Signing Jason Arnott would put us at 50 contracts, wouldn't it?

True but Tanguay is more effective on the wing, yet they wanted him at center back in September.
Arnott is to slow and would not be able to keep up with the top 2 lines. I doubt he could keep up with Sven if Sven had to play on the third line.
Arnott would have been a good fit last year with the style of game they were playing.
edit: actually he probably could keep up with Iggy and Tangs, making it the slowest top line in the NHL.

Even if the Flames weren't "going for it" who's ice time would he be stealing anyway. We have 0 prospects up the middle that would be anywhere close to NHL ready, and the ones we do have are apparently better wingers anyway.

If Horak had the ability to slide to center on the first line I would agree with you about him and tanguay, but he doesn't. Quite frankly other than Cammalleri, Tanguay is the only real option for the first line down the middle.

Sorry my writing skills are not very good. What i was trying to say is if Tanguay can be switched to center and not be as effective, then Horak can be switched back to 3rd line center and not be as effective.
I think Horak with his speed would do an equal to better job than Arnott would on the 3rd line. Arnott can not play on the top 2 lines for the reasons i gave on another post. Flames might as well give Horak the playing time than waisting a contract on Arnott.
There is a chance that Arnott could come in like Mo did a couple of years ago and find a little "fountain of youth". More than likely he would come in and be like MO was after he had back surgery. Lets not forget that when we picked up Mo he had had a full training camp with Vancouver and was in close to game shape. Arnott is going to take weeks to get up to speed.

i believe so. why handcuff ourselves by having 50 contracts. i think they need to move one before bring in a guy like arnott when it puts our backs against the wall.
