I have always preferred it when teams have true goaltending tandems. For far too long, this team has treated the back-up position as a seat warmer.

Having said that, I am not sold on Irving. We need a good 1B goalie.

Hes the reason we lost last night, and hes been terrible all season from what I've seen. I did not get a chance to watch the Edmonton game. The only game he was alright was against Vancouver, but he didn't make any saves to keep us in the game.

At some point he needs to make a save. He continues to deflate the team with goals, and terrible goals at that. Supposed top 10 goalies don't let goals like that wrap around attempt, the Pa Paretau goal go in. That was some garbage, and it cost us the game. He didn't even face any shots, if he was under seige, then you can say well we didn't do a good job. We can't take away every scoring chance, he has to make saves.

He needs to be benched.

The sample size is actually 130 not 5 since save% is the percentile rate of GA relative to SA so it's shots not games. It's still not a truly representative sample but the guy he was responding to used the qualifier "currently" and by all current numbers Kipper IS one of the worst goalies in the league... I wouldn't expect that to remain the case as the season goes on but that's a prediction of the future not an expression of the now.

We were in the lead twice and then he gives up the Parenteau goal. We don't want him to score goals but just do his job. I'm just hoping its just kipper getting adjusted to the late season start but a few more of these kinda games for him and we are toast 10 games into the season.

Why would Irving be any better? He has played 6 games this year and won the back up job in a scrimmage.... Maybe he had the better practice team than Karlson that day.

NO.

No one is guaranteeing that Irving will be better. Kipper just needs to sit for a game or two with the performances he has given us. This way we will know if Irving is even in our plans for the future. This organization preaches meritocracy and now it's time to follow that.

No, the question is, how could Irving be any worse than the goaltending we are getting now?

Why? because he doesn't know he cost the club 2 games? Whats the point of sending him a message by putting irving out there and costing us another 2 games in a shortened season.

Kipper always comes back, and if he doesn't all the Kipper haters should be ecstatic, since the majority of them wants us to finish last anyways.

I'll take that bet! And I'm there for size. Feel free to PM me.

Give Kipper the next start to redeem himself. Otherwise, let Irving take the next one. Can't wait too long for Kipper to get sharp; if Iriving plays lights out that's great (otherwise, a crappy Irving is no different than a crappy Kipper -- Calgary loses either way).

Gotta love the kipper doubters early in the season only to be silenced a couple days later and never to return.

Irving is not the answer nor the solution. Kipper will come back into a more reliable pattern and Butler should not be in the 6 man D rotation.
Keep him 8th on the depth chart.
Smith is far better.

I would give Kipper a couple more games but if he still is playing like crap Feaster should look at trading Iginla to Pittsburgh for Fleury. Fleury hasn't been too great for Pittsburgh plus they could use another winger so they might be willing to move him. We get to send Iginla to a competitive team and we get back a younger goalie to go forward with.
At that point we can try to trade Kipper and have him as a backup to Fleury in the meantime.

I don't know, it's mostly just my frustration talking, Kipper should be able to get his game back but damn, get your head out of your azz Miika and shut it down! And that goes for the D too...

Butler should never play another game for the Flames, it's not all his fault or anything but still, when he's in the lineup we lose...
I don't think its scary at all... see Vancouver game last year.

Agree on Butler. I made this prediction last year, he'll be out of the NHL by 2015.

I'll say it again...we need to get Kipper going, long term we need the guy. Irving MIGHT be slightly better for a game or two but long term

No quality Kipper=no chance
