Calgary Flames@NHLFlames

Hartley confirmed that defenceman, Chris Butler will be back in the line up. Derek Smith will be the odd man out against the Avs. #Flames

Roger Millions@RogMillions

Butler in. Smith out on Def for #Flames . Wants to use rotation to create competitive situation on blueline.

Pat Steinberg@Fan960Steinberg

Hartley also indicates Babchuk could be cleared for contact sometime next week. #Flames

Read the first tweet, I was like ok.
Read the second, thought it was bad news.

Read the last two, I wanted to kill myself.

I'm not that worried. Butler will not be seeing top 4. He will get 10 minutes of ice time against weak competition on the bottom pairing. This is where he needed to start his career when the trade was made for him. He needs to be traded because no matter where he plays fans are going to hate him.

My only issue with him back in is that Smith played a good game against the oilers. Should Smith not be rewarded for something like that?

This is would make a lot of sense if Butler knew what competitive meant

I don't think I've ever felt even the slightest bit suicidal over who the Flames 6th defenceman was.

These next two games are really important for us, I really would like to see 3 of 4 points. Hopefully Butler doesn't ruin Christmas for all the children

I'm just thankful Butler is in against Colorado and not Chicago.

Until BAMMMM you see him with Bouwmeester on the ice with 10 minutes left in the 3rd in a tie game.

Yeah, COL looks terrible this year. CHI is going to be a very tough game. Rather have smith for that game as well.

That's how bad Butler is.

I just hope he doesn't get paired with #4.

That's because he plays like Chris Butler.

Sure haven't missed watching that crap the last couple of games.

Smith has played well, not sure why 'Artley is messing with the D.

I don't think Butler is as bad as some think on CP.He is a bottom pairing d-man.

My only concern is Hartely's "competitive situation" that he wants. Smith played good the last 2 games and as a reward is getting the pressbox. What happens if Butler plays great against the Av's? Do they send him to the press box so Anton can come in and keep the "competitive situation" going? Players should not be taken out of the line up when they play well. They should be taken out when they play poorly. Butler was bad the last game he played and should not be given a chance back in until a player plays bad or gets injured.

Unless one of the three are going to prove too good to sit out, the competitive rotation will be between Brodie, Butler and Smith... heck, when Babchuck is back you can add his name to the mix...

Geez... Brodie, Butler, Babchuck... Backlund, Bouwmeester, Baertschi and Begin... why don't the Flames just change their logo to a flaming B? They can change some names too... Biginla, Bammalleri, Birving, Bhudler, Banguay,

Chris Butler will be fine as long as he isn't paired with Bouwmeester. Pair him with Sarich or Wideman and he will be fine.

Please Hartley don't pair him with Bouwmeester.

Hartley paired Giordano with Bouwmeester when it wasn't working. He certainly isn't going to split that pair to have a guy that was a healthy scratch the last two games play on the top pairing.

You will probably see Babchuk rotate with Sarich and Butler rotate with Smith. If Brodie falters he gets added to the rotation. Players will likely rotate based on play.
