I was really hoping the game worn stuff was discounted too.
Might have to do some shopping. That's a pretty sweet deal.

Somehow the Flames offering = making even more money by discounting (quote, end quote.. ya discount off normal price, but still making a profit on their brand) their products

The average payout is probably in the $25-30k range so donate $450-500k (half of what the Kings gave away so I'm sure the Flames could afford it) and I believe it would go a long way! Not only to the charities that would receive the money but also in the public relations department.
Then it would be nice to see Iginla and crew maybe put out some money of their own, even if they gave half of their 1 game pay they would be almost matching the Flames donation 1:1.

The point is that using 50/50 money is just giving fans' money away. It's not coming from the owners' pockets. THAT is what I'd like to see (and yes, I know that the owners give lots on their own already). That way it is actually from the CLUB and not just our money coming back to us. That's a government thing.

You are not following what I'm saying one bit. Slow down and read it again. But in short I'm saying the ownership should write a cheque for what the 50/50 would have generated in those missed games. Their money, not the fans, using the 50/50 as just a way to get a figure, not the actual money from it.
How exactly are the Flames going to give away the fans money for 50/50 when there hasn't been a 50/50 this year?

I really like your suggestion, and think they should do it as well, only addition would be that the Flames players should actually contribute half of that ammount, given they feel they are owed a specific % of HRR, they should be on the hook for their half of this as well.

Are they gonna do anything at the actual game? 50% off merchandise really isn't that great since it's all really expensive and they're just asking me to spend more money. Can I get a free nachos at the home opener or something?

Yeah, as usual we are getting taken advantage of, mostly because we have a strong love for the team/game and will come back regardless.
I look around the league and see what other teams, in similarly strong markets, are doing and I'm kind of disgusted...
I don't expect anything, but you'd think that they'd be more careful in how they treated fans.

Not that I stand on one side of the fence or the other, but the Flames aren't really offering anything out of the goodness of their heart. They are just pricing their merchandise to maximize profits (like a business) and since the product logo they are selling (i.e. Flames jersey's) aren't at a all time popularity high, they are "discounting" it with the tag of "Thank you fans!" ... really, their "offering" is just getting fans to spend more money on an NHL product.

I don't there is any profit. Most retail business mark up no more than 50%. I think 40% is around the average.

What is the actual cost of the jersey? (materials+labour)
i'm pretty sure its quite low, anything on top is for the brand (logo).

And how is that taking advantage of anyone? If you want some Flames merch you get it at a discount, if you don't want Flames merch, well you're at status quo.
I just can't quite figure out how not getting anything for free = taken advantage of.

That doesn't change the price that the retailer paid for it. If the jersey was purchased by the retailer for $60 and is usually sold at $120 a 50% discount leaves them at break even on that particular sale.

I might have quoted your post, but I didn't mean to say they were taking advantage of anyone. I was merely pointing out this isn't a "concession" to the fans to have this 50% off.

Who is the retailer?
