Americans doing their thing, many message boards I see are more about the terrible injustice of a school being a gun free zone and that those with carry/conceal cannot on school property. That if just one teacher had been packing this could have been prevented.

No offense to anyone who agrees with that sentiment, but seriously #### you. More guns, a great solution.

Same sentiment after the theater shooting in Colorado.

Interestingly enough, I'm pretty sure the Taber shooting 8 days later was the first follow-up after Columbine...

I'm still struggling to think of something to say. So unthinkable. This is an issue that's deeper rooted than just easy access to guns. The first step is to make guns harder to get, but then the solution must go much further than that. Changing the culture might take a generation.

.223 round is commonly used in the M16 or AR15. An assault rifle used by militaries including our own. Is it really necessary to allow these to be owned by Joe public?

Not that laws shouldn't be changed to reduce access, but it's a much bigger battle than something like seatbelts or smoking. Even after events like these, you're still going to have millions of Americans who see any reduction in their ability to buy whatever gun they want with little restriction as an affront to their human rights.
No doubt it's a hard fight but it starts with someone saying enough is enough. Gun control by itself may do little but it sends a message that things need to change. Slavery and racial inequality, sexual discrimination, women's rights are also decades or centuries old issues that bit by bit got turned

CNN should not be interviewing kids on tv.

If there were no guns, the guy would have choked 27 people to death anyways.

Ammunition needs to be harder to obtain as well. I remember when you didn't need a firearms licence to purchase ammunition in Canada. Thankfully the law was changed.

That is bs and you know it. Far easier and quicker to kill someone with a firearm then using a knife, bat, bare hands, whatever.

You heard this a lot after the Virginia Tech shootings - "if this would have happened in Texas, people's ability to carry would have prevented it" and a host of anectodal evidence extrapolated out to try and compare to the VT incident.

I was not kidding about this though.
A 9-year old girl just maybe witnessed or a mass shooting of 5 year olds, does she need a microphone in her face on national tv?

Yes. They have been replaying an interview with a little girl named Alexa. They are also now finally blurring out the faces of the kids that were being led to safety, but that was not the case, initially, when they started reporting.

Seriously? That's ridiculous. A little easier and quicker to do it with a semi-automatic assault rifle.

While I am 100% in favour of stricter gun control and banning automatic rifles, the gun culture in the States will be much harder to change
