You're doing the right thing jhunt. The people criticizing you are probably terrible neighbors themselves that park their cars in front of other people's houses.

I don't care if it's legal to park in front of someone else's house, it still is wrong and definitely not neighborly.

Seems about right you would side with him.

Better to call bylaw or the cops?
Call bylaw, if it's parked the wrong way they'll likely deal with it faster. I once had a car parked at an angle in my parking lot taking up 2 spots, after a couple of days I called CPA to have it towed but I didn't have the proper "private property" signs so they said the best they could do was put a 72 hour sticker on it and if it still didn't move they could tow it. Within an hour there was a tow truck, it turned out the car had been reported stolen.

Still confused why you can't park on your own driveway/garage/ parking pad.

I'm saying that the fact that I've been parking there for years and years makes what he's doing even more ballsy. It's clear that we use that spot. It's a blatant display of disrespect.

Oh yeah I know, but thank you for your support puckluck. Honestly the neigh sayers in this thread haven't deterred me one bit. I didn't start this thread to ask about the morality of this all. I know I'm right. I just wanted to see if there was something I could do about it.

It doesn't matter how long you have parked there for, you don't own the spot and have no right to it.

It's common sense. Don't park in front of someones house. If you do or support someone who does you're a jackass.

Maybe your neighbours aren't aware of this. It might help if someone would let them know before their car gets towed.

Try following along, he absolutely does have a right as the d-bag neighbor is parked within 1.5 meters of his driveway.

My memory is a little foggy on the matter, but wasn't it no vehicle can be within 1.5m, not just vehicles that don't belong to the owner of the driveway? Such that if this was jhunt's parking spot, he'd be breaking the law too (just that it would not be enforced because, as jhunt mentioned earlier on, that you have to own the driveway to file the complaint...and unless whoever he's living with really wanted to be a dick, nobody could file one)?

(No hostility intended - I am just reciting stuff off the top of my head)

I think we can do without the insults in this thread.

The other thing nobody has brought up- what about going over with some beer to talk things over?

Some of you guys are just being dicks for fun, eh? Dude is pissed off that he comes and goes daily, and would like to park on the street in front of his house, but the spot is being taken by someone that parks there for days or weeks at a time. Can you not see why this would be aggravating?

Lol. Suck it up. I bet you people would all just suck it up when you came home with groceries or kids or a bunch of binders from work, and you have to hike it half a block because some jalopy is growing moss in front of your house.

Good old, dependable CP. Always full of a-holes that have never had the problem, so therefore, it's not a problem.

A whole half block?! God forbid.

Yeah, ok. You'd be a-ok with always having to walk down the street, even half a block, because someone else is parked in front of your house. Your own neighbour. Someone who should be a little more thoughtful.

But thanks for the post, TSD. Solid contribution there. You picked out my arbitrary distance and disregarded the actual point of my post. I really don't expect any better from you, though.

When the cold comes, it'll be pretty difficult to plug in his car when it's half a block away. The guy parking in front of his house is being a ###### and it sounds like he's doing it just because he can.
