I have a feeling it will be extremely tough to play defense on EASHL with any lag at all. It takes a while to get your guy moving with the momentum system, add a delay to that and you'll find yourself out of position quite often.

I think D will be the biggest changing points in games this year. Bad pinches will mean breakaways. The upside is shots from the point get through this year so slight changes to the way D is played can make them very effective.

I have player locked a few times on D so I can get a feel and I noticed gone are the days of sweeping in from the point to the hash marks for a 1-timer. This hasnt worked once and I normally give up a 2 on 1 every single time. I have however noticed that holding the blue line is much easier and playing on the line instead of super deep leads to lots of point shots.

I think its adaptable, I actually had a lot of fun playing D so far and might shift back there again this year like I had played in 09 and 10. The D position now is more of a true Dman instead of high slot centerman.

I've player locked to goalie a few times and it's the same thing. The new desperation saves should be fun to play with in EASHL

I'm totally screwed for a bit. I just cannot score for the life of me! I think I've developed some brutal habits that don't translate well to this game at all. My D style is way too aggressive and I end up 5 feet away from everybody I'm trying to hit, and my offensive strategy is to strong-arm my way into the zone which results in turnovers out the ass. I'm pretty happy we're giving the game a week to marinade before jumping into the GM connected mode.

I find the skating makes this the most different feeling NHL game yet. I'm not quite on board with people that say it feels the same, but that's just my opinion. I was a little freaked out when I tried the 12 demo and debated not buying it, but I'm not getting that feeling from this one. It feels more authentic to me and much less arcade-like due to the skating. I had Dustin Byfuglien and Martin St. Louis on the same HUT team last night and the difference in how they both felt was unbelievable. St. Louis's speed burst was insane while Byfuglien had to take several strides to get to top speed... I really like that.

As much as the hitting is still over the top, I was happy to see St. Louis hit somebody going at top speed and just roll off him. Hopefully that's a sign that while things aren't perfect, they are getting better.

Same as me. But I've played roughly 5 hours of this demo and I've broken those habits. and I played a LOT of NHL 12

I'm with you Russic. After playing hours of NHL 12 a week, you get a feel for how the players move so you know how to control them quite easily. Now that they've changed how players skate it feels completely foreign to me. Especially the momentum aspect, which I'm loving. By the time the game hits shelves we'll have lots of practice to get the movement down.

I'm jealous of you guys without a broken hand right now. Can't play video games for at least four weeks.

If I broke my hand, I'd be more concerned about not doing something else.

OH.

I quite like the demo. 13 seems to represent a bigger shift, in terms of gameplay, than has occurred the last two or three years within the series. The new skating mechanics change the game quite significantly, nearly as much as the skill stick did in 2007. The thing you do more than anything else in these games is skate around on the ice, so I'm excited that they put work into it this year.

Also, I've noticed improvements with the AI based upon my experiences with the demo. It's tougher to cut to the middle in the offensive zone, and computer players are better at reading/anticipating break-out passes, for example.

Nice to see I'm not the only one getting owned by the HUT mode. There's a certain sluggishness to it that is more realistic, but hard for me to get used to. The passing is pretty tough as well at times, and it drives me a little nuts when a puck is 6 inches off the mark and the computer teammate won't even try to reach for it. Still having fun with it, but it's going to take a lot of getting used to.

Is anyone else finding pulling off dekes more difficult than previously? Any deke I seem to try is more or less ineffective. Time to spend more time in Free Skate.

Granted I'm only playing on Pro, but I'm not finding goal scoring that difficult. I'm the opposite, I've scored a ton of goals. Brodeur is an absolute sieve in this game. The Shawinagin goalie is like a collinder.

My first play of the demo 5 seconds in I scored on a cross crease with Kopitar and brown.
