My wife always makes me lug home kilos of epsom bath salts whenever I go shopping. Do I need to be concerned about this?
Epsom salts are just magnesium sulphate and would pretty much do nothing (aside from dry the hell out of your nose) if you snorted it. The "bath salts" in question contain various amphetamines which also apparently cause hallucinations.

My girlfriend works in the ER. "Bath salts" are also growing in use in Calgary as well from what she's seeing, although she doesn't believe it's as psychosis-inducing as the media is making it out to be. However, that's not to say it's not dangerous.
Agreed, the media is having a field day with this like they do with any other drug, and have for many drugs in the past. LSD got stories like this, though it was involved in very very few. It just doesn't make people violent. Makes them trip out, and I suppose if they are already violent they might continue to be, but it doesn't MAKE them violent.
I doubt 'bath salts' nearly as dangerous as the media says or involved in a quarter of the cases that they are rumored to be involved in.
As you mentioned though, that's not to say it isn't dangerous. From everything that I've seen and read, it's VERY dangerous and definitely not something I would ever try. And it does seem to make people more amped and yes even violent. Uppers generally do. It definitely needs to be a banned substance and there needs to be education out on it.
Just mean to comment that there is the usual media hysteria and overreaction.
It's been a few days since I read this post, but the timing and content make it post of the year calibre. Definitely one of the funniest posts in years.

I'm pretty sure Epsom salts can be ingested as a laxative as well.

To continue the freaky deaky the Edmonton journal is reporting that bath salts are being found on the streets here and down east. To make things worse, they are not currently prohibited because they are not on the controlled substances list.
So in your scenario planning on how this zombie invasion starts, be sure to include that a bureaucratic lag allows the face eating drug to be legally imported.
On a different note, is it still organized crime if they legally import and legally sell the stuff?

I think your talking in a clinical sense though. With the way that these drugs are manufactured who knows what the effects are and what they do.
Everyone said for years that X was safe as long as you stayed hydrated, but once these greedy drug manufacturers started adding toxic components to make it cheaper it started killing people.
Who knows whats going into each batch of this crap and what it does to people.
Personally I think that the people that manufacture this stuff should eat a bullet.

Oh agreed, you are taking your chances whenever you purchase and use something manufactured and sold on the street. To your example it is true, pure MDMA is one of the safest drugs you can use. Safer than even modern tobacco products and alcohol in most cases to most people. But pills are notoriously dirty. They can be made wrong, mixed with bad stuff (many people like to add meth to them), and even cut with worse junk like you mentioned. And the reasons can go from trying to save money, not knowing what you are doing, or just wanting to alter the product for different effects.
It's true bath salts are very dangerous even compared to other drugs. I simply meant to point out that there is also the usual media overreaction. 'This person did something weird and violent, oh he must be on that crazy new drug!'
JUNE 6--From the Zombie Apocalypse news desk comes word of the arrest of a Louisiana man who bit off a chunk of the face of a victim whom he allegedly battered during a bloody attack Saturday.
According to cops, Carl Jacquneaux, 42, attacked Todd Credeur outside the victim’s home in Scott, a city in Lafayette Parish. After punching Credeur in the face, Jacquneaux bit the 48-year-old victim in the face, “removing a large amount of flesh,” police reported.
Quote:
Pictured in the above mug shot, Jacquneaux was apparently under the influence of narcotics during the June 2 incident. However, cops would not comment on the claim by a friend of Credeur’s that Jacquneaux had been using bath salts prior to the attack. The hallucinogenic stimulant has been linked to a savage attack last month in Florida that ended with a cannibalistic assailant being shot to death by police.
oh...my...god. Crazy s***. Seriously, man throws his intestines at police? that takes another weird interpretation. These stories are insane. That picture is disgusting. I'm glad I finished my lunch before coming on to CP...seriously. I was eating Tortellini with tomato sauce.....so skin and blood/flesh wouldn't be very far off in appearance.

So the toxicology report has come back and they are blaming marijuana for the incident. Such political bullspit. They just want more reasons not to legalize it (though this is in the States, so you know marijuana is the devil there).
