Pylon,
I don't know you personally but my wife's family, her parents, have had to endure the death of one of their sons, and we all tried to make sure we were there for his children. Your words have struck a nerve with me today, and got me choked up.
When my brother in law died, it seemed to age my wife's parents 10 years over night, and I can't imagine how they could endure something like this again. It would be compounded, snow balling, I am sure because you are now reliving the loss of your sister as well. I am very sorry.
Having said that, it is clear to me your parents must have a great deal of internal strength because despite this adversity they made it possible for your nephew to flourish to this point. It is also clear to me they have passed their strength and values on to you, your words here in this thread tell me that. I know this is of little comfort now, but it is a blessing that you are able to help your parents carry a terrible burden now.
My condolences are sincerely given.

Hey Pylon
Parents are pretty resiliant people, you think that they're going to fold but they never do, I mean they had to raise us, and if your upbringing was anything like mine we can both proudly say that we helped our parents gain a lot of character.
My parents are elderly now, but I'm amazed at how healthy and vibrant they are into their mid 70's. I thought my mom would fall apart, she lost two of her sisters within a very short period of time and had to watch in horror as cancer devoured them both slowly until they didn't resemble the people that they once were.
MY Dad lost his brother this year, they weren't close at all, and I was concerned that my dad's guilt over not bridging that gap with his brother before he died would really effect him.
They both bounced back really well, and I'm not only pround of them, but I learned to admire and respect a strength that I didn't think was there.
Sometimes we don't give our folks enough credit, I mean as surlly teenagerrs we ran over them like Tanks, personally I told them that I hated them more times then I can imagine when I was growing up, and I basically ran away and formed my own life without them in it at all for years. but they never gave up on bringing me back into the fold.
I would hope that when I face tragedy I can do it with the same kind of strength and dignity that they have.
I wish you and your folks luck in getting through this difficult period of time, I'm sure that they will appreciate the fact that they can lean on you more then you can know or they can appreciate.

Sorry to hear that Pylon. I've never lost a sister or nephew but I've lost a brother and my mom. Both were devastating times. Seek all the help you need man. Even when people offer to cook meals for you, take that offer.

As thanks for all the great wishes, and all of the support I have recieved, I would like to share my 2 favorite pieces of Kevins music. A huge thanks to AC, especially from my folks for getting the music files captured from his website. The world should know what an amazing talent he truly was. Even if you do not have an ear for classical music or opera, the music is still incredibly moving. RIP little bud:

Been reading this thread all along but I just don't have the words to express how sorry I am for your loss.
My grandparents lost a son when he was 21, driving home from University for a long weekend. Labour Day weekend this past year was the 30th anniversary of his death. Some wounds never heal, but lives carry on and the best thing you can do is remember and remind people what a special person he was.
He was a hockey player and my grandparents have a few of his trophies in a cabinet by their kitchen. When we were younger we used to ask my Grandma about him and listen to stories for hours. I feel like I knew him even though he died 5 years before I was born.
Your parents are lucky to have you to lean on, and vice versa.

Pylon,
If I may say that your sorrow is helping all those out there appreciate what they have. Thank you for being so candid and sharing. You have my deepest heartfelt sympathy for this tough time.
I'm going to let my mom and dad know I love them right now.
Stay strong, and to your parents as well.
Best,
Cam
