Just got back to the City after 2 weeks in the UK. Can't believe how wet it is. The flight attendent was telling us that she had never seen this much rain in Calgary as a born and raised local. I was expecting London to be rainy, and it didn't rain at all, and now I'm back in Calgary to see this. Strange swap of weather patterns.

I believe in the Pony Power

Yeah. I live in an area near the Elbow. It is crazy tonight how high it is and the power of the water. I've never seen it like this.
I also discovered when I got home that I have to leaks in my bedroom ceiling. Not huge leaks but I'm in for a night of listening to:
Drip
Drip
Drip Drip
Drip
Drip Drip
Drip
Well you get the point.

So does anyone know if that cheap click laminate floor resists being waterlogged?
There go the thousands of dollars of renos to my basement so I can sell my house... It's been one of those weeks.
I don't have the energy left to talk to an insurance company.

Damn right F Off Rain! I just had my 20 year comic collection decimated in my storage locker. Bad thing is they weren't against the floor it was ones that were against the wall (boxed etc.). Anyway, these were shipped to me from England where I started collecting them, after I moved back. A family friend brought them over to North America and had them fed exed to me through his employer (nice guy a lot cheaper for thousands of comics). He lived in New York and was near the Trade Centers, after he got back to his appartment after 9/11 they were there, covered in dust and debris, but still good.
Not to mention nothing ever having happened in the UK where it knows how to rain. Got through all that only to succum to the wet Alberta environment!!!!
So yeah Fotze F Off Rain.
(PS realise this is trivial compared to a lot of woe that people are going through, still, don't have to like it.)

I guess I'll see your crappy weather first-hand..........I'm driving to Calgary tomorrow afternoon.
I can either go the Radium/Banff route, or I can go the southern route...........you know, the one with the snow around Sparwood/Fernie and all the flooding around Okotoks.
Think I'll go the Banff way.
Hope everyone is OK around that area, sounds pretty bad.

Here is the most current water level/weather forecast.
http://www3.gov.ab.ca/env/water/WS/Forecas...casternotes.pdf
Also, if you want to look at the current flow rates for streams/rivers, here is a link that is updated every 30 minutes on average. Some of the flowrates are amazing... 1100 m^3/sec here in Lethbridge. That's a lot of water, but nothing close to the 1995 levels. Still at least 8 feet below that level.
Select the basin you want, then choose River Flows And Levels from the 2nd menu.
http://www3.gov.ab.ca/env/water/basins/bas...m.cfm?basins=10
The worst seems to be over and the forecast is improving.
edit: forgot the link

There were blue skies in Lethbridge today.... well, about 2 hours worth. :P
40% chance of showers is a heck of a lot better than 90% rain heavy at times.

That 'clearing' date has been pushed back every day since the weekend. Its sure pouring like hell out there right now and it was supposed to let up tongiht.
I wonder if all the rain is going to melt that snowpack. That could send a poop load more down the way.

Whoa, that's insane.
Winsor_Pilates: you caught some good weather in the UK (specifically London)! Rained all day Wednesday, had a bit of a storm on Friday... but other than that, I couldn't be happier. I even got myself a sunburn.
I can't believe I'm heading back home to... rain. And lots of it.
I'll try to bring the sunshine and the warm weather back with me
Stay dry, and safe, eveyone

I just drove home from downtown and took Elbow. I cant believe what the river looks like. You'd think it was the Bow!

Fish Creek looks like the freaking Bow right now as well. The water looks like it is halfway up some of the trees on the banks

Here's a few pics of the Okotoks area, I'll add some more asa I get them from friends and family bailing out their basements.
This one is the campground, normally beside the river (not under it)
Another one from on top of the main bridge, looking towards the campground
Looking North across the river from on top of the bridge

Apperently they think the water is going to spill OVER the Glenmore dam. I guess they have it fully open letting water through and they can't keep up. Watch out if you live downstream of the dam.

They have been allowing the water thru it's two outlets since sometime yesterday.
DO NOT go rafting. Scary stuff for the big waterfront homes.
I have been wondering over to the Bow (across the street) and although it's banks were reinforced 30 years ago I don't think I have seen it this high or fast since it used to flood Sunnyside on a pretty regular basis. The little unused natural island
across from Princess Island is totally under water
Don't quote me on this but Sunday it was running at 80(m3) and yesterday afternoon it was closer to 280(m3). It has probably raged into Med Hat along with the Oldman by now.
The Highwood was 56(m3) on Sunday and hit 550(m3) last night.
Black Archer's link ,thanks, will give you more accurate results.

Wow hopefully the snow pack won't melt immediately.

We definitely could have!
I even had myself a "Flames in unusual places" moment in London. Walking around Kensington Gardens, I happened upon a small-scale road hockey game, with a Flames fan (wearing a flaming 'C' t-shirt) and his friends. Put a smile on my face! lol
Anyways... back to... the rain.

I thought I was going to be successful in making it through two weeks in England, most of it in London, without seeing a Toronto Maple Leafs logo anywhere but in the last hour of the last day there, a guy comes strolling across Westminster Bridge next to Big Ben with his Leafs jersey on.
Boo!!
EDIT: I might have seen Tron this morning taking those pictures as someone was on the bridge with a camera blazing away when I was driving by.
Its as grim as it looks in his photos but his parents house still seems high and dry . . . . the water, however, is a lot higher than it was when I took my photo's yesterday.
