Well I've been up here for a couple weeks now, so I figured I'd bump the thread. It's not too bad so far. I live just off Whyte, down 107th. Super easy to get to the University via bike, although I imagine I'll have to figure out transit when the weather gets to -73.
A few thoughts:
1) The homeless people are the most polite I've ever met. Every encounter end with a "have a nice day" or "god bless you". I'm much more inclined to give Edmonton poor change than any city I've ever been to. Plus, random drunks prowling Whyte have given me free beer 3 times already. Killer.
2) I never need to leave the area really. The Strathcona/Garneau area really contains everything I'd need (except Rexall and Commonwealth), so I get to avoid the apparently quite sketchy north.
3) Haven't been stabbed yet, although there's a magpie that lives in my tree that is most likely up to something. He gives me ill-favoured looks.
4) UofA's beer gardens were terrible. Overpriced, ended too early, and had 0 atmosphere. Too many engineers is my guess

.
Anyways, to those who gave me advice earlier in the thread about living in this area, thanks a ton! Overall, I quite like it.
