WIND allows any new customer to return the phone/device and walk away (zero charges) during their first week, for this exact type of scenario. There used to be a restriction on how much airtime had been used, but even that was removed this past summer.
Honestly, I don't think your friend has too much to complain about.

This would be your 'Catch up' bill that includes the "Part of the month" since you signed up. It's the same as any cell, heat, power, or cable bill.

I really like Wind so far in Calgary. I don't get signal at work but no one else does (Rogers or Telus), but I get signal in the atrium on the way in that others don't get.
|
Exactly. My first bill was around the same. Since then, the bill has always been $30.45 (as advertised!).
Signal is Calgary has been nothing short of excellent. Many months in and I still haven't had a lack of connectivity (phone or data) when I wanted it.

Actually they told her because she'd used 30 minutes of air time that it was unreturnable.

She was lied to by a salesman. That is plenty to complain about.

That it was, and was quickly sorted out. I've had an all-together better time with Wind than my friend.

When I first went to Wind I was using a Blackberry Curve, and I had a few tough spots, but nothing worse then what I had with Telus previous.
I switched to the Nexus S recently and I've literally had zero outages since.

I'm using an Amaze. I have yet to lose signal in the city. Granted I never go further south than Deerfoot Meadows. I don't have signal where I work (U of C Foothills campus ground floor), but in the atriums (uuuuh atria?) I have 3-4 bars. 4th floor, 3-4 bars. I'm very happy so far with my $40 plan. I even had 4+ Mbps last night at North Hill mall.

LG Optimus 2X - and I absolutely LOVE the phone. It has been a really solid performer for me (even if it isn't cool) and blows away the Blackberries I've had in the past.

I wonder how many people Blaster talked to and told that Wind ripped him off before realizing they didn't. Stuff like that gives a new smaller company a bad rep for no reason whatsoever.

No one. I posted here while on the phone with the WIND rep and they told me it was because I'd switched from the Oh Canada plan to the Holiday Miracle plan, so I got the $15 switching charge. That was why I'd said I'd been had. It was my first WIND phone on my first WIND plan. The reason I had to call is because previous bills have outlined why there is an extra charge. This one had it as a lump sum under "Cost of monthly plan."
About 20 minutes after posting that she corrected herself when I told her that was not possible.

WIND will be making the anticipated Galaxy Nexus available on February 3rd for $599 outright, $449 on the WindTab, or $249 on the WINDTab+. Good show Wind. Good show…

i was in cgy for a bit recently, with my wind bb 9900 (work made the move to a cheaper provider)........
i wasn't getting reception when inside quite a few stores at chinook centre. I am not a fan of wind thus far (i don't even get signal on HW10 here in TO). i don't pay for the phone so don't know it's true "value for $" but just going by service quuality (as compared to rogers BB which i had before) i would give wind a 5/10.

At last count the WIND Mobile subscriber base was up to 358,000. This number was from Q3 2011 and as we patiently wait for the Q4 and the complete 2011 numbers to roll in, Anthony Lacavera, WIND Mobile’s CEO, has stated to the Windsor Star that their total subs are now sitting around 425,000… which would mean that WIND had a stellar Q4 with 67k subs. No reason was given as to the surge in subs, but could have been caused by their holiday plans and device lineup, or possibly their expanded coverage (Niagara, KW, Guelph, London)

Pretty damn good I would say. The Galaxy Nexus hasn't been out that long either with Wind, and should they ever get the iPhone, I would imagine that number would start jumping by 100k every quarter if not more.
Hopefully the government puts aside spectrum for them in the upcoming auction, so they can keep innovating. IMO they should seriously consider buying one of the smaller players too.

here in TO during the holiday period, the lineup at the wind kiosks (ie. at square one mall) were often 15-30 people long!
I was shocked at how many people were signing up with them.

Their coverage area will continue expanding as well. Rumors are they are currently building two towers in Winnipeg, so they should come online soon. 1 million subscribers are easily within reach.

Enjoy your Wind phone while it lasts. This article from today's Globe and Mail.
Essentially, long term prospects don't look so good for Wind and Mobilicity. Blame the oligopoly and foreign ownership rules which is starving much needed capital to survive.
