Marlins are definitely investing huge to turn things around in their new stadium...and now the SEC is investigating the financing behind the stadium...

When players sign as free agents in baseball do they lose the no trade clause they get as 10 and 5 players? Seems like the Marlins every so often sign players to beef up their team, than pawn them off at the end of the year. Although maybe they're going to make a real effort to try and keep something here with a new stadium.

According to ESPN sources Hanley Ramirez does not want to move out of the shortstop position to accommodate newly acquired Jose Reyes.
Quote:
"Hanley doesn't want to play third base and the Marlins were informed of that," the source said. "Rather than ask for a trade, what he has done is to inform (the team) that he does not want to play another position other than shortstop."

Albert is said to be mulling the Marlins' 10-year deal and an unspecified offer from the Cards, and now there is a mystery team, presumably Manchester City. Feel like a final decision is close.

They were joking on MLB radio last night, if Pujols were to sign in Miami, the Marlins would have to start Fielder in left field.

As far as I am concerned, he can bent... greater players have changed postions to accomodate players to help their club win a championship. I have never been high on Ramirez since his dogging that booted ball down the left field line - that type of effort is something you don't build a winning club around. Reyes is statistically (I believe) the better shortstop regardless, so outside of pampering this baby - moving Reyes to third is doesn't make much sense.
Get over yourself, and realize that at least you have an owner willing to spend money to get you a damn ring - you could be situated in Kansas City, San Diego, Pittsburgh - so it could get worse.

I think this is all going to blow up in their face. Spending all at once like this rarely works, as it leaves them no money to make any additional moves.

I'm sure that they're planning on selling out their new ballpark all year to see these guys...a park where they are gonna generate way more $$ form the team through all avenues...concessions/parking/ect.

Yeah the concessions, parking, etc is where they are expecting to make big $. I'm not sure of the particulars, but I believe the former owner still gets all or most of that stuff from their lease now. Will get none of it with the new ballpark I think. One of the many reasons bandied about at any rate.

The Angels are the bridesmaid no more. Albert Pujols will sign with the Angels for ten years and $250-260MM, tweets Yahoo's Tim Brown. He'll receive a full no-trade clause. Pujols decided this morning, writes Brown. If Pujols received more than $252MM, his new deal will be the second-largest in baseball history in both its total and average annual value. Pujols is represented by Dan Lozano of Icon Sports Group.

Nobody did, there hasn't been one rumour about the Angels. It must have been really last minute or the journalists were sniffing in the wrong places.

Makes one wonder what they are going to do with Trumbo and Morales now... Or maybe they move one of them with one of their five outfielders in a package type deal to land a starter? Interesting, as it sets up a bunch more blocks to fall.

I wonder if the Cards get in on Fielder now. I'm thinking we might see the A's pull the trigger on a deal or 2 today as well.
