Never been divorced....

....never been married either. I'm still contemplating that one....

My parents just had their 30th anniversary but a fair number of people around me, including some co-workers and close friends have been absolutely bent over by the system.

Yeah ...people go from happy to not happy quickly these days...ADD culture.

I was being sarcastic by using "incentive"..... that's a strong word.
Lets just say the grass on the other side of the fence has been fertilized and watered by the long arm of the law.

I hope it works out for you and you don't en up like the 50 some odd percent of us because you will be so screwed if there is a divorce. I am speaking from experience.

I beg to differ. Have you experienced divorce? The laws in Canada are a joke. If you want details I will share, but its off topic so I will leave it out for now.

Back then if society would be more like today and not like you wish it was my mother may have had a chance or at least an option.
As sad as your story is and I have sympathy since my dad was part of an abusive family. The reality of it is that for the 10% of the people that really need to get out of a marriage the laws are there. The other 90% get screwed because the other 90% get to leach off the system put in place for people that really need it.

To be quite honest, although this is true, the system is pretty amazing.

As a Credit Union Manager, it often amazes me what spouses get in divorce settlements, especially when dealing with corporate farms. It's like the one spouse doesn't care about the longevity of the operation or the legacy that they are destroying for the child who stands to inherit the operation.

In some sick way, although we're happy in life, it kind of makes me wish that my wife and I never got married, never had kids, or never moved in together.
