Every year, come Halloween I can never think of a costume. The rest of the year I think of plenty, but in October I'm always stumped. So this year, on October 15th, a reminder pops up on my calendar.

I went to a kids' party on Saturday afternoon with my one-year-old dressed as a chicken.
I went as Steve Jobs, but people thought I was Harry Potter.

Probably the greatest idea ever! Not only is it easy, but you're going to have an awesome night using all those lines.

You probably weren't smug enough. Half of any costume is the persona that goes with it.

I've tried of number of carving sets, but the best knife I've used is a simple kitchen steak knife. Sharp tip, non-serated and just long enough to get through the rind of the pumpkin. Cleanest cuts and you can slide the knife a little better to get smoother and rounder edges.
The second best tool was a small hand saw attachment on a drill tool. If you are carving a large pumpkin it zips through time, but its not that great if you are doing intricate corners or lots of small detailed items.

Knives? Knives?
A sabre saw and an electric drill with a small bit for fine carving.
Just expect to sleep on the couch after the kitchen ends up looking like a pumpkin has been dynamited.

I find those pumpkin carving kits with the thin serrated blades work well, though this is supposedly really good:
But what I really want is one of these:

Anyone ever see one in Calgary?

Screw Halloween, how about Jesus Ween? Saw this on the news yesterday:
http://www.globaltvcalgary.com/pages...?id=6442507505
A Calgary religious group is swapping the good book for gumdrops; the ‘Jesusween’ initiative encourages homes to hand out bibles as well as chocolate bars.
“Now Christians don’t have to be timid or be quiet or hide on that night. They can spread the word of god!” says Pastor Tim of the Gateway International Church.
The group says it’s their way of reclaiming All Hallows Eve.
“We give it out in addition to candy. Jesusween is not against candy or trying to hijack Halloween. Jesusween is about giving something more positive instead of all the gory images,” says Tim.

So I'm off the hook with making an Minecraft Enderman costume, couldn't find half the stuff I wanted, and my kid decided to be a Jawa anyway!
Now I have to train him to say "utini".

Yeah, I'm sure it is not about trying to hijack Haloween.
That statement is probably going to be followed by "We're not trying to scare you into becoming a Christian" which would immediately be followed by the most scary descriptions of what they think "hell" would be like.

A tire iron, or a phony molitov cocktail, maybe carry around a home made bong.
Or a liquor bottle.
Maybe carry around a dummy dressed in Canucks gear and occassionally stop to slap it around or make out with.

You could carry around a letter of scholarship to UofC, a badge saying you're on the national junior water polo team, and then a toy cop car that you light on fire?
