Mingles
My roommate and I worked at Jack Astor's on MacLeod Trail and lived in the apartments on the corner of Southland and Bonaventure. We stopped in Mingles one Sunday night. They had $3 drinks and free pool. We started making it a regular occurance and when others joined us it got so packed they hired a DJ. One Saturday we went there and the bouncer wouldn't let us in. After we complained he said he could do it for $10 a head. We boycotted the place for a while and we started going to the Speakeasy when it opened because they had midnight madness. $2 bottled beer and hiballs, free pool and nude dancers after midnight.
We went back to Mingles after they came into Jack's and made up for not letting us in. The same scenario happened a short while later and we boycotted it for good. It shut down shortly thereafter in 2000.
We had went to go to Mingles one Monday night, but realized we shouldn't be there, since we were white. Those who were there will understand.
