Emerson Etem just scored #60 on the season. Still has a handful of games left in the regular season.

The Penticton Vees just lost their last game of the regular season, ending a record 42-game win streak.
Previous loss was on November 5 of last year. Crazy. Out of their 42-game streak, only two of those wins were in OT or shootout.
Set a new BCHL record going 54-4-2 to finish the year. Big name on the team is Mario Lucia who is a 2nd round pick of the Minnesota Wild.
Possibly the greatest BCHL team in history, it would be a complete shame if they did not win the BCHL championship and the RBC Cup as well.
Congrats to the Vees.

The best player on that team is without a doubt Mike Reilly, 18 year-old defenseman drafted by Columbus.
Playoffs will be interesting for Penticton, particularly if and when they go up against a physical club like the Spruce Kings or the Centennials in Round Two.

The Hitmen have just clinched home ice advantage in at least round 1 of the playoffs. Can finish either 3rd or 4th. What a great turnaround for the franchise.

Kambeitz was a dick every time he was on the ice for Red Deer Sunday. Reminded me of Steve Ott.

Hell of a game last night between Kootenay and Calgary. We scored two goals in 15 seconds in the last minute of play to tie the game at 5, then won in the first minute of OT. Rematch at the Dome tonight, and if Kootenay wins, there is a chance we'll face them in the first round.
If we win, we get either Regina or Saskatoon. Either way, we got home ice, and games 1 and 2 are next Friday and Sunday.

Kisio should be considered for NHL GM openings this summer. The guy knows how to build teams.

I was kind of surprised he hasn't joined the Flames staff. As I recall, there was some speculation he was going to be Darryl's assistant.
That said, I know he does a lot of work for the Flames. He's definitely deserving of an NHL position.

Talked to Jaynen Rissling a little bit after Saturday's game. He was pretty candid about his NHL draft chances and what not. I'll be pulling for him in June.
Quote:
“(I’ve) just kept an even keel, really,” Rissling said. “Not too many teams have came up to me, but it’s more motivation to work harder and get noticed a little bit more. I just use it as motivation to use my game.”

Has there been many (any?) CHL GM's that went straight to being an NHL GM?
I think it is a somewhat different job considering the differences in the league and Kisio doesn't get the advantage he has now in Calgary if he moves up to the NHL.

Mildly surprised Kisio didn't get an exec of the year nomination, but he's already won the award twice, I believe, and it is hard to argue with what the Oil Kings accomplished.

I'm looking forward to the Hitmen vs Wheat Kings series. I'll be cheering for Brandon though...

Should be a high scoring series with the Hitmen winning in 6 games.

Hitmen tickets $11.00
The Hitmen playoff ticket deal is back again after a year off (they didn't make the playoffs last year.
If you use the Friends of the Hitmen discount code HIT87 to buy tickets from Ticketmaster, you'll get tickets to the Hitmen playoff games in Calgary for $11 (plus the Ticketmaster $3.25 "surcharge"). That's cheaper than even the kid's ticket prices. Click here to buy tickets. Remember the code only works for Calgary home games.
I don't know for sure, but assuming it works the same as other years, you should be able to use this HIT87 code throughout the entire playoffs (depending on how far they get obviously) and the price of the tickets will probably go up a few bucks after each round.
Enjoy.

Calgary Hitmen dominating tonight over the Wheaties 4-0. Trevor Cheek with the hat trick. Not bad considering they are missing Rask and Sylvester. Hitmen look much more in control than the first game, where they had looked skittish.
Off to Winnipeg for three games. I'd guess 2 out of 3 for the Hitmen in Manitoba.

A lot of stupid penalties, really. Brandon clearly thinks that they are going to win via intimidation. It didn't work. They couldn't even back Virtanen down despite several dirty hits. And once Calgary got up 3-0, the Wheat Kings melted right down. Selfish penalties, numerous hits to the head and frankly, they embarrassed themselves.
Pretty sad result for Brandon, as I thought they were unlucky not to have the lead after one. But after that performance, I hope the Hitmen put them away fast. Preferably before one of their meatheads costs us another injury or two.
