I want an explanation.

Maybe, or it increases the chance of Steve Staios making a return...

Thank god this trade at least went through. As the day went on best case was getting him signed, worst was losing him for just one 2nd.

So this is not good, but not awful. And makes for a more exciting draft day.

I'll take a Kevin O'Leary attitude to this whole thing. Tim Erixon is now dead to me. He allowed the greed monster to kill himi. As soon as he said no to the deal he became nothing - a non factor...NEXT!!!

There's a stench from the previous regime and it's going to take 2-3 years to air out the place. IMO, the hockey community sees the Flames as a poorly-run organization that doesn't properly develop its prospects.

I really hope the truth comes out onto why he wouldn't sign with Calgary. Did he not like the city or was there another element like the contract negotiations not working out.

This is pretty bad though. Even though things were bad, we could at least say we had two nice young D in the system coming up with Reggie and Gio as well (and whatever happens to Bouwmeester).

Now, with that hole, we have some serious issues.

Maybe Tim Erixon thinks he's Eric Lindros. I hope we boo the crap out of him whenever he comes to the Dome to play.

Roman Horak already has an ELC.

Three years at $610,000 per.

$62,500 in the AHL.

I want to know why he wouldn't sign.

If the reasoning is because he doesn't like the coach or the GM or whatever, they need to step up their game, because their public image is being tarnished.

A truly terrible day for the history of this team.

I've already forgotten Tim Erixon. No use getting angry over a guy who had no intention of playing for the Flames. He blindsided us, and now he's gone. I'm looking forward to the draft. I think Feaster now has assets to move up or aquire another first rounder.

Hey if he doesn't want to play here I don't want him to play here. Good ridance to bad rubbish like Erixon. Brodie's got the green light, we have 2 2nd round picks which is awesome and we have a skilled center who played a major role in Howse's big year. With his back against the wall Feaster did a great job of GMing here. Good job Jay!!!

Obviously something has changed in the last 6 months that caused him to not want to play here.

Who knows maybe Sutter getting fired is what changed his mind because he thought that he would not get a fair shot since the GM that drafted him was now gone.
As much as people like to brush it off like its nothing, the Flames not giving young players a chance (or ones that eventually do, flame out and die) is a huge problem. Things like filling 13th forward positions with Byron Ritchie time and time again, or even (IMO) Backlund being held back "until he is ready" really hurts the image of your organization. I know a lot of people liked to plug their ears and pretend like all is fine and all the cards are held by one side, but sooner or later, this type of organizational behavior will hurt you... like now.

Take a deep breath, fellas.

We can't help it if this kid just didn't want to play here.

For all we know, his agent gave him bad advice, told him to wait until last minute to see if the Flames could meet all their contract demands, and maybe barring all that, he just didn't want to play here.

All things considered, the Flames were handcuffed in this situation.

Backed into a corner, Feaster turned a nasty situation into three young prospects for this organization.

Give credit where credit is due; Feaster did all he could, and possibly more.

It happens and not just to the Flames. The Jack Johnson saga comes to mind.
