I worked with a kid who, at 5, was sold for a flat of beer to a couple of pedos, by his junkie parents, they were itinerents, using the kids (they had a couple) as props for begging and to get extra welfare, occasionally pimping them out. Always moved on after the welfare and social started to take notice of them, they were out of southern Alberta but moved around BC as well

He was found locked in the basement naked malnourished and very abused.

Kid was a mess, first raped a girl at 12 or 13 and was always a risk after that. I always felt sorry for him, would have never let him loose though.

Given the babies age we can hope the emotional scarring will be as limited as possible.. not saying this is a positive or anything but just trying to grab something out of this that doesn't make me want to break the monitor in half.

But all murders that happen within a prison are still counted on official homicide statistics, so you would hear about them. There was one this year in Edmonton. I just don't hear much about violence problems in prison, although things other than murder likely don't get released.

When the new remand center in Edmonton is finished, it will be the largest prison facility in Canada. It's actually quite an impressive looking place already.

I couldn't even finish reading the article. Disgusting on so many levels. The sad part is that this guy will get a light sentence (I'm guessing not even 3 years) and will get out in 1/3 of that time. People will be calling this a travesty of justice (and rightfully so). Then nothing will get done, and the cycle will continue. What a sad story.
